This article is the 9500th song post in the blog.
OK, so it is 9500 today. Goodness, the Doppler effect that I discussed, oh just three short weeks ago, seems to be working just as told. The actual pace of posting songs is fairly normal and consistent. And yet, it seems we are speeding up, and will be reaching the magic number, faster than we thought we would get there.

“Mera Dil Jal Rahaa Hai” – a dialogue that is delivered with a measured viciousness, with lancet eyes looking daggers at you, lips pinched and nose screwed, with both hands half raised in a dismissive directive to all and sundry – an utterance of extreme frustration and deepest contempt. This expression and this articulation, is a signature hallmark of the one and only comical-vampish-diabolical mother-in-law cum scheming aunt or sister. Yes, the one and only in her class in the Hindi film world – Erin Issac Daniels.

Poets as singers may not be an uncommon expectation. Poets are known for their singing prowess in mushairas and in kavi sammelans. They are expected to present their verses in ‘tarrannum’. However, not many have ventured into singing in the films. It is quite strange, because they are the one’s who best know the words, their intent, and their meaning. They also have a fair idea about an underlying melody that hides behind the meter and rhyme that they have created. Lyricist DN Madhok was famous for providing a basic ‘dhun’ to the music directors, for every song he wrote. But still, one does not find many singing in the films in their own voice.

This article is my small tribute to Ustad Amir Khan (15/08/1912 – 13/02/1974) on the occasion of his 40th death anniversary which falls on February 13, 2014. He was the founder of the Indore Gharana though personally he did not like to be associated with any gharanas. He maintained that he belonged to the Hindustani gharana and other gharanas were like its sub-branches. But his disciples gave the name of Indore gharana for his unique style of rendition.

This article is the 9400th song post in the blog.
It seems to me that we just did the century milestone. I simply turn around, had just taken one breath, and there is Atul ji’s message that we are on to the next century stone. Wo, I say to myself, this is not right. But then I check, and it is. 9400, OMG.
