Rail songs are those songs in which Hindi movie actors are singing the song aboard a train. I am aware of around 40-50 Rail songs from Hindi movies. Most of them have been discussed in this blog. I continue to discover “new” rail songs quite frequently and a few of them are so good that I have earmarked them to be discussed on special occasions for this blog.

I have not counted the number of songs sung by Rafi for Shammi Kapoor, but it is high time I did that. There are few actors in Hindi cinema of yesteryear who evoke as much passion in film-lovers as Shammi Kapoor. He came into cinema at a time when pathos ruled and emotional tragedies, a la Devdas, were the order of the day. Although he made an effort to fit in, he was thankfully (for all of us) a miserable failure in his efforts.
