Aaye hain door se milne huzoor se

Posted on: September 9, 2010

Shammi Kapoor made his debut in early 1950s and for the first few years of his career he was largely a nobody. In his movies, he would try to ape the mannerisms of his elder brother Raj Kapoor.

It was with “Tumsa Nahin Dekha” (1957) that Shammi Kapoor discovered his true self. It was in this movie that we first saw Shammi Kapoor look and act like the Shammi Kapoor that we so love and adore to this day.

Ameeta was the leading lady in this movie, and I must say that she set a very high standard for the subsequent Shammi Kapoor heroines in live up to in the forthcoming Shammi Kapoor movies.

The movie had music by O P Nayyar. Yes, it was O P Nayyar and then debutant Usha Khanna (Dil Deke Dekho) who composed music for the first two “true” Shammi Kapoor movies, before Shankar Jaikishan took over as the regular music director for Shammi Kapoor. However, O P Nayyar came back for a Shammi Kapoor movies of the 1960s, viz “Kashmir Ki Kali”.

Here is a lovely song from “Tumsa Nahin Dekha” (1957). It is sung by Asha Bhonsle and Rafi and it is picturised on Ameeta, Shammi Kapoor and others.

Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist.

Song-Aaye hain door se milne huzoor se (Tumsa Nahin Dekha) (1957) Singers-Asha Bhonsle, Rafi, Lyrics-Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD-O P Nayyar

Lyrics

aaye hain door se,
milne huzoor se
aise bhi chup na rahiye,
kahiye ji kuchh to kahiye
din hai ke raat hai
tumse mehmaan kaa,
mujhpe ehsaan kyaa
laakhon hi zulfon waale,
aate hain gheraa daale
meri kyaa baat hai
aaye hain door se,
milne huzoor se
aise bhi chup na rahiye,
kahiye ji kuchh to kahiye
din hai ke raat hai

uth ke to dekhiye,
kaisi fizaa hai
sharmaanaa chhodiye,
ye kyaa adaa hai
uth ke to dekhiye,
kaisi fizaa hai
sharmaanaa chhodiye,
ye kyaa adaa hai
taubaa ye kyaa farmaayaa
main to yoon hi sharmaayaa
taubaa ye kyaa farmaayaa
main to yoon hi sharmaayaa
meri kyaa baat hai
aaa aaa
aaye hain door se,
milne huzoor se
aise bhi chup na rahiye,
kahiye ji kuchh to kahiye
din hai ke raat hai

dikhti hai roz hi,
aisi fizaayen
mukhde ke saamne,
kaali ghataayen
arre
dikhti hai roz hi,
aisi fizaayen
mukhde ke saamne,
kaali ghataayen
koyi chal jaaye jaadoo,
phir ham poochhenge baabu
koyi chal jaaye jaadoo,
phir ham poochhenge baabu
din hai ke raat hai
ho o o
tumse mehmaan kaa,
mujhpe ahsaan kyaa
laakhon hi zulfon waale,
aate hain gheraa daale
meri kyaa baat hai
aa aa aa
aaye hain door se,
milne huzoor se
aise bhi chup na rahiye,
kahiye ji kuchh to kahiye
din hai ke raat hai
ho o o
tumse mehmaan kaa,
mujhpe ahsaan kyaa
laakhon hi zulfon waale,
aate hain gheraa daale
meri kyaa baat hai

I think, in the introductory text to the song, “Shankar Jaikishan” in the 4th line of the 4th paragraph should be “Shammi Kapoor”.

I like this song very much and can listen to it “barambar”.

Thanks for pointing out the typo.
