The lyrics for this song has been provided by Sudhir, a new visitor of this blog and a fellow enthusiast of Hindi movies and its songs
Rail songs are those songs in which Hindi movie actors are singing the song aboard a train. I am aware of around 40-50 Rail songs from Hindi movies. Most of them have been discussed in this blog. I continue to discover “new” rail songs quite frequently and a few of them are so good that I have earmarked them to be discussed on special occasions for this blog.
Here is a rail song from “China Town” (1962). In this song, Shammi Kapoor wears a disguise posing as a Saadhu and sings this song aboard a train where Shakila, her father (S N Bannerji) and their attendant Keshto Mukherji are also travelling.
Shakila is annoyed at the intruder, but only as long as she is unaware of his identity. Shammi Kapoor momentarily removed his fake beard and they re attaches that which is the standard mmethod of a fake bearded hero to reveal himself to his lady love. As soon as Shakila is aware of Shammi Kapoor’s identity, she toio enthusiastically joins in the singing. Her baap is of course none the wiser.
Here is this rail song from ‘China Town” (1962) which is sung by Rafi and Minu Purushottam. Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist. Music is composed by Ravi.

Lyrics
dekho ji ek baala jogi
matwaala jogi
dwaar tere aayo ri
dekho ji ek baala jogi
matwaala jogi
dwaar tere aayo ri
dekho ji ek baala jogi
aaya hoon dwaar tere
milne ki aas liye
tere daras ki main
ankhiyon mein pyaas liye
aaya hoon dwaar tere
milne ki aas liye
tere daras ki main
ankhiyon mein pyaas liye
nainon ke pat khol deewaani
kuchh bol deewaani
mukhdaa kaahe chhupaayo ri
dekho ji ek baala jogi
matwaala jogi
dwaar tere aayo ri
dekho ji ek baala jogi
na kisi des ka hai
na kisi gaam ka hai
jogi ke mukh pe
bhajan ek naam kaa hai
na kisi des ka hai
na kisi gaam ka hai
jogi ke mukh pe
bhajan ik naam ka hai
milan ka sahaara le ke
ek taara le ke
man ka raag sunaayo ri
dekho ji ek baala jogi
matwaala jogi
dwaar tere aayo ri
dekho ji ek baala jogi
kaahe ye roop dhaaraa
koi na bhed jaane
tu meri main tera
ye duniya maane na maane
kaahe ye roop dhaaraa
koi na bhed jaane
tu meri main tera
ye duniya maane na maane
main ne to tera ho ke deewaana
dekha saara zamaana
chain kahin na paayo ji
dekho ji ek baala jogi
matwaala jogi
dwaar tere aayo ri
dekho ji ek baala jogi
matwaala jogi
dwaar tere aayo ri
dekho ji ek baala jogi

I can feel the intensity within the song. Knowing the background helps, especially to know it is a love song. Thanks for sharing.
