“Sharbati Aankhen” (1945) is a forgotten movie by now. When I decided to discuss a song from this movie, I looked for its details on internet and failed to find much. Then I noticed that a post of this blog is also listed by google as a source of information for this movie. I just stumbled upon a beautiful duet ‘raat hai nikhri huyi’ sung by Krishna Goyal and Geeta Dutt from the film MALLIKAA (1956) under the music direction of the great Hansraj Bahl. Tanveer Naqvi is the lyricist.

It was on 16th november 1917 that Chitragupta Srivastava was born in Bihar. He went to Bombay and earned fame as music director Chitragupta. He preferred to keep a low profile and was happy to compose for B grade movies, where he composed absolutely A grade music. A grade movie makers would have happily worked with Chitragupta if only Chitragupta had gone and met them. For instance, the first time that Chitragupta met with Raj Kapoor was in 1980s, when his music director sons Anand and Milind introduced him to raj Kapoor at a function. And Raj Kapoor told him that he would have definitely used him as a music director in his movies if only he had met him.

If you want to discover unheard of musical gems from Hindi movies, then the best bet would be to look for B grade movies. The catch is, finding such B grade movies can be a tall order as such movies as well as their music tends to be highly elusive.

The first line of this song is identical to the “Dil Hi To Hai” (1963) song (Nigaahen milaane ko jee chahta hai(Dil hi to hai)), but this song is an entirely different song. This song is from an earlier movie, namely “Paraayi Aag” (1948).

I have so far posted 11 songs from “Anmol Ghadi” (1946) and I wondered if there was any worthwhile song left from this movie that needed to be posted. Of course there was ! Here is this delightful song sung by Suraiyya which I had never heard before till now !
