Ye aankhen dekh kar hum saari duniya bhool jaate hain

It is a beautiful song from a 1981 movie called Dhanwaan. Rajesh Khanna was making yet another gallant attempt to regain his lost position, Rakesh Roshan was making yet another attempt to revive an almost non existent career and Reena Roy was acting in yet another sensitive role ( unlike how she began her career).
It was a very nice movie, which was liked by class audience. The word “aankhen” that figures in this song plays a very important role in this movie. Reena Roy steals the show, and Rajesh Khanna, during his comeback attempts like this one, really gave some wonderful performances, including in this movie. I have come to realise that Rajesh Khanna’s second innings as an actor, post his superstardom, resulted in some superb movies.
The movie may have largely been forgotten, but this song remains popular, and quite deservingly so. Lata Mangeshkar and Suresh Wadkar have given their hearts and souls in this song. If one is not informed, one may think that it is an R D Burman or Laxmikant Pyarelal composition, but no, the music director was Hridaynath Mangeshkar, the brother of Lata.
As I mentioned above, it is a very beautiful song.

Lyrics
ye aankhen dekh kar ham saari duniyaa bhool jaate hain
ye aankhen dekh kar ham saari duniyaa bhool jaate hain
inhen paane ki
inhen paane ki dhun mein har tamanna bhool jaate hain
tum apni mahki mahki zulf ke pechon ko kam kar do
tum apni mahki mahki zulf ke pechon ko kam kar do
musaafir inmen ghirkar apnaa rastaa bhool jaate
bhuul jaate hain
ye aankhen dekh kar ham saari duniyaa bhool jaate hain
ye baanhen jab hamen apni panaahon mein bulaatin hain
ye baanhen jab hamen apni panaahon mein bulaatin hain
hame apni qasam
hame apni qasam ham har sahaara bhool jaate hain
tumhaare narm-o-naazuk honth jis dam muskaraate hain
tumhaare narm-o-naazuk honth jis dam muskaraate hain
bahaaren jhenptin hain phool khilnaa bhool jaate hain
ye aankhen dekh kar ham saari duniyaa bhool jaate hain
bahut kuchh tum se kahne ki tamannaa dil mein rakhte hain
bahut kuchh tum se kahne ki tamannaa dil mein rakhte hain
magar jab saamne aate hain kahnaa bhool jaate hain
muhabbat mein zubaan chup ho to aankhen baat karatin hain
muhabbat mein zubaan chup ho to aankhen baat karatin hain
wo kah detin hain sab baaten jo kahnaa bhool jaate hain
ye aankhen dekh kar ham saari duniyaa bhool jaate hain
ye aankhen dekh kar ham saari duniyaa bhool jaate hain

Atul, thanks for bringing back memories of this song. I remember listening to this song when we were in Bombay. Those sure were the days. I grew up listening to old hindi numbers in Bombay and Nasik. I am looking forward to finding song I think I have forgotten :). It sure is going to take a long time at the speed at which you blog :).
