Dilbar jaani chali hawaa mastaani

on:“Haathi mere Saathi” (1971) was a movie that was meant specifically for kids. And I happened to be a kid those days. Needless to say, I loved this movie.
Most of the songs were kiddy songs as well. But trust movie maker to cater to all sections of the audience. So the movie also had songs for grown ups.
This song “dilbar jaani chali hawa mastaani” was a song for grown ups and naturally it was not as popular with m like say “chal chal chal mere haathi”. Still, it was a good song.
The song is sung by Kishore Kumar and Lata and the lyrics are very good. Of course I am saying all that with the benefit of hind sight. At that time I was not aware that Anand Bakshi was the lyricist. The fact that Laxmikant Pyarelal was the music director was not known to me till yesterday. Honest !
Here is this song. Now that I am posting this song, I found myself reminiscing about 1971 when I watched this movie on a movie hall and a few days later watched a circus nearby where the same elephants were performing the same tricks that they perform in this movie.
And guess when was that ? Just 37 years ago. Koi lauta de mere beete huye din.

Lyrics
dilbar jaani chali hawaa mastaani
haa haa dilbar jaani chali hawaa mastaani
hanste-khelte guzre ye zindgaani
dilbar jaani chali hawaa mastaani
hanste-khelte guzre ye zindgaani
dilbar jaani chali hawaa mastaani
pyaar mein din aise beete jaise beete pal
pyaar mein din aise beete jaise beete pal
jaane kab shaam huyi deep gaye jal
sun mere pyaare
hmm
uuhoon hmm aa haa haa
sun mere pyaare ye hai teri meharbaani
hanste-khelte guzre ye zindgaani
dilbar jaani chali hawaa mastaani
saare soye tu kyun jaage saathi kyaa hai baat
saare soye tu kyon jaage saathi kyaa hai baat
o jungle ke raajaa aajaa sojaa ho gayi raat
meethe-meethe sapne le aayi nindiyaa raani
hanste-khelte guzre ye zindgaani
dilbar jaani chali hawaa mastaani
hanste-khelte guzre ye zindgaani
dilbar jaani chali hawaa mastaani

Brings back memories.
Haathi Mere Saathi – what a HUGE hit it was, especially with kids.
I like this song – and that other duet from this movie (sun ja).
