Do hanso ka joda bichad gayo re

on:I was looking for this song for quite some time, but I finally managed to come across this song only yesterday.
This song from “Ganga Jamuna” was quite popular during its days. This song was written by Shakeel Badayuni and the music was composed by Naushad. This song is very much like a folk song and is very nice to listen to.
The song is picturised on Vyjyanti Mala. This is one song where she is not required to dance. It is a sad song, for a change.

Song-Do hanson ka joda (Ganga Jamuna) (1961) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Shakeel Badayuni, MD-Naushad
Lyrics
do hanso ka jodaa bichhad gayo re
gajab bhayo raamaa, julam bhayo re
gajab bhayo raamaa, julam bhayo re
do hanso kaa jodaa bichhad gayo re
gajab bhayo raamaa, julam bhayo re
moraa sukh chain bhi, jeewan bhi moraa chheen liyaa
paapi sansaar ne saajan bhi moraa chheen liyaa
piyaa bin tadpe jiyaa, ratiyaa bitaaoon kaise
birhaa ki agni ko asuan se bujhaaun kaise
jiyaa moraa mushkil mein pad gayo re
gajab bhayo raamaa, julam bhayo re
gajab bhayo raamaa, julam bhayo re
raat ki aas gayee, din kaa sahaaraa bhi gayaa
moraa sooraj bhi gayaa, moraa sitaaraa bhi gayaa
preet kar ke kabhi preetam se naa bichhade koyi
jaisi ujdi hoon main, aise bhi naa ujde koyi
banaa khel moraa bigad gayo re
gajab bhayo raamaa, julam bhayo re
gajab bhayo raamaa, julam bhayo re
jeete jee chhodoongi sainyyaa naa dagariyaa tori
beet jaayegi yoon hi saari umariyaa mori
nainon se hoti rahegi yoon hi barsaat balam
yaad mein roti rahoongi teri dinraat balam
nagar more man kaa ujad gayo re
gajab bhayo raamaa, julam bhayo re
gajab bhayo raamaa, julam bhayo re
do hanso kaa jodaa bichhad gayo re
gajab bhayo raamaa, julam bhayo re
gajab bhayo raamaa, julam bhayo re

Right now I am in a very sad mood. I love this song, but do not understand der lyrics. Could you please translate a little? Maybe just the refrain?
You would help me a lot….
Thanx and keep on going!

Yet another beautiful song from Naushad, the master, which is even better when I listen to it late at night, when the rest of the house is asleep. There are two other good songs in this movie by Lata – “Dhoondo dhoondo re saajna…” and ” O re hore chhanan ghoongar baaje …” as well as a song by Asha “Tora man bada paapi sanwariyare …. ” I don’t know if they are all picturised on Vyjayantimala, but they are all great songs.
Thanks for all the great songs, Atul.
