Falsafa pyaar ka tum kyaa jaano

If you want to make someone else to see your point of view then what do you do ? Start telling her that she is wrong and she is dumb ? In fact this song takes precisely that kind of approach.
In this song, Dev saab, singing in Rafi’s voice, informs Vyjyanti Mala that she is incapable of undestanding love because she has neither loved nor she has the experience of waiting in love. So, what is the idea of telling that in full public view ? That she would saw the errors of her ways and immediately fall in love with the dashing hero that our Dev Saab is ?
I do not subscribe to this Punjabi/ Delhi way where it is believe that humiliating people is the way to make them improve their performance. Even Bollywood songs like this subscribed to that view.
Well, whatever it is, here is this song from “Duniya” (1968) sung by Rafi and picturised on Dev Anand and Vyjyanti Mala. Hasrat Jaipuri is the lyricist and music was composed by Shankar Jaikishan.

Song-Falsafa pyaar ka tum kyaa jaano (Duniya) (1968) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Hasrat Jaipuri, MD-Shankar Jaikishan
Lyrics
falsafa pyaar ka tum jaano
falsafa pyaar ka tum jaano
tumne kabhi pyaar na kiya
tumne intzaar na kiyaa
falsafa pyaar ka tum jaano
falsafa pyaar ka tum jaano
tumne kabhi pyaar na kiya
tumne intzaar na kiyaa
khoobsurat ho magar pyaar ke andaaz nahin
ye kami hai ke tumhara koi hamraaz nahin
dil me jab dard nahin baat banegi kaise
saaz chheda magar pyaar ki awaaz nahin
falsafa
falsafa pyaar ka tum jaano
falsafa pyaar ka tum jaano
tumne kabhi pyaar na kiya
tumne intzaar na kiyaa
kaise samjhaaun ye naazuk sa fasaana tumko
ye wo manzar hai jo mahsoos hua karta hai
rahti duniya me wohi rahta hai markar zinda
pyaar ke naam pe jo jaan diya karta hai
falsafa
falsafa pyaar ka tum jaano
falsafa pyaar ka tum jaano
tumne kabhi pyaar na kiya
tumne intzaar na kiyaa
pyaar Shirin ne kiya pyaar hi laila ne kiya
pyaar meera ne kiya pyaar hi Radha ne kiya
pyaar har rang me logon ko sadaa detaa hai
pyaar ke parde me ham sab ka khuda rahta hai
falsafa
falsafa pyaar ka tum kyaa jaano
falsafa pyaar ka tum kyaa jaano
tumne kabhi pyaar na kiya
tumne intzaar na kiyaa
tumne kabhi pyaar na kiya
tumne intzaar na kiyaa

ha! i actually don’t see it as “humiliating”
he’s not calling her ugly…AND…dude, if a guy just lays his heart out there…that’s so lame!
there should always be ched chaad…i’m a girl, i know. it’s perfect!

I saw this movie some years ago.
It was OK – but I think it was one of Dev Anand’s lesser movies. And Vyjanthi too by that time was on her way out (this was post-Amrapali and we know that she got disillusioned with Hindi movies after Amrapali’s failure at the box-office).
There is a nice song from this movie, Atul, that you have not posted yet. “Dooriyan nazdeekiyan ban gayin”. Knowing you, it is probably on your list anyway. 🙂
Talking of Amrapali, there are lovely songs and dances in this movie. Perhaps you could consider them too ?
