Nazar ka jhuk jaana jubaan ka ruk jaana

Posted on: August 22, 2009

Well known songs picturised on well known artists is one thing, but stumbling upon less known songs picturised on obscure artists is often a rewarding experience.

Here is a typical party song/cabarat song from a lesser known movie called “Passport” (1961). We are used to watching Helen , and even heroines like Madhubala and Mumtaz, to name just a few, in such songs. Here it is an unknown actress called Sarita playing this role.

She is paying particular attention to a gentleman, who going by the rules of Bollywood movies (a) is in disguise, (b) and the villain K N Singh, though smelling a rat somewhere, cannot put a finger to it and (c ) hence the disguised person must be Pradeep Kumar, the hero of this movie.

The song is sung by Geeta Dutt, whose voice fitted such songs. Farooque Qaisar wrote this song and music direction was by Kalyanji Anandji. One can notice that the effort here was to create a song on the lines of of “Babuji dheere chalna” or “Mera naam Chin Chin Chu” . It is a nice song, notwithstanding the attempt to draw inspirations from the more popular songs of the genre.

Song-Nazar ka jhuk jaana (Passport) (1961) Singer-Geeta Dutt, Lyrics-Farooque Qaisar, MD-Kalyanji Anandji

nazar ka jhuk jaana
jubaan ka ruk jaana
isi ko meri jaan muhabbat kahte hain
nazar ka jhuk jaana
jubaan ka ruk jaana
isi ko meri jaan muhabbat kahte hain

bade hain rangeen
hawaayen dekho
taraanaa gaao ji
zamaana kahta hai
sabhi dilwaale huye matwaale
bahaaren aayi hain zamana kahta hain
bahaaron ka ishaara to samjhlo ji
nazar ka jhuk jaana
jubaan ka ruk jaana
isi ko meri jaan muhabbat kahte hain

ye kaali zulfen agar bikhraa doon
falak pe aawaara ghataayen jhuk jaayen
nazar ki shokhi agar dikhlaa doon
ghata ke daaman mein sitaarechhup jaayen
sitaaron ka ishaaraa to samajh lo ji
nazar ka jhuk jaana
jubaan ka ruk jaana
isi ko meri jaan muhabbat kahte hain

nasheeli raatein
magar phir baatein
kisi se milne ke bahaane bante hain
udhar khaamoshi idhar madhoshi
aankhon aankhon mein fasaane bante hain
ishaaron ko ishaara to samajh lo ji
nazar ka jhuk jaana
jubaan ka ruk jaana
isi ko meri jaan muhabbat kahte hain

The entire film is available on You Tube. In the titles, they list three actresses: Helen (her name is mis-spelled as Helan), Madhuri Roy and Rosita. So the dancer is not Sarita.

When K.N. Sing and the man in disguise are traveling in a car in an earlier scene, Pradeep Kumar is hiding in the back of the car. After the song shown above, K.N. Sing and the man in disguise are taken to another room for questioning by Police while Pradeep Kumar is standing there. So the man in disguise is not Pradeep Kumar

Hopefully u r aware that there are many many movies where they dont list all the cast members in the titles. And thats why sites like IMDB when lists such actors for a movie, they list them as “uncredited”.
