People of my generation were aware of a Hindi movie called “College Girl” (1978) which had a hit Kishore Kumar song, viz. Pyaar maanga hai tumhi se na inkaar karo. Old generation music lovers though were more aware of another movie of the same name that was released in 1960. This movie, viz. “College Girl” (1960) had several nice songs sung by Rafi in it.
So when I came across this Rafi song from “College Girl”, I took it for granted that it was from “College Girl” (1960). It sounded like a song of 1960s alright.
Now, more than three years later, I have come to know (thanks to information provided by Atif M) that this Rafi song is from “College Girl” (1978) and not from “College Girl” (1960).
So here is this song from “College Girl” (1978) whicjh is sung by Rafi. Dev Kohli is the lyricist and music is composed by Bappi Lahiri.
And this song, which for some explicable reason , failed to get popular. Listening to this song for the first time, I could not but help feel that this was one of the best ghazals that I had come across.
This is one song that I never got to hear during its time.
If Bappi Lahiri’s songs like this did not get popular then one should not blame him for later on composing songs of the nature that required less creativity but yielded rich dividends for him.

Just listened to this song for the first time now.
What a lovely song it is.
Rafi saab’s voice is divine, as usual.
