Ruk jaa roktaa hai ye deewaanaa

Posted on: August 5, 2010

“Mr X in Bombay” (1964) was the first movie where Laxmikant Pyarelal and Kishore Kumar worked together for the first time, and the result was some outstanding music. The fact that Kishore Kumar acted in the movie certainly helped.

I have already posted three outstanding Kishore Kumar songs from this movie including the iconic Mere mehboob qayamat hogi and the lovely semi classical song Chali re chali re gori paniyaa bharan ko (Mr X in Bombay) .

Here is another Kishore Kumar song from this movie. In this song, Kishore Kumar is seen interacting with the pretty Kumkum.

This song is written by Anand Bakshi, and he too was working with Laxmikant Pyarelal for the first time, if I remember correctly.

Song-Ruk jaa roktaa hai ye deewaanaa (Mr X in Bombay) (1964) Singer-Kishore Kumar, Lyrics-Anand Bakshi,MD-Laxmikant Pyarelal

Lyrics

ruk jaa
arre
ruk..jaa

ruk jaa
rokataa hai ye deewaanaa
rooth kar mujhse naa jaanaa
dekhne waale samjhenge
ke tu hai
meri mahboobaa haan
ho ruk jaa
rokataa hai ye deewaanaa
rooth ke mujhse naa jaanaa
dekhne waale samjhenge
ke tu hai
meri mahboobaa haan
ho ruk jaa

ye mausam ye nazaare
in phoolon ke ishaare
teri soorat pe aashiq ye saare sanam
ye mausam ye nazaare
in phoolon ke ishaare
teri soorat pe aashiq ye saare sanam
kabhi mast hawaa chhedegi tujhe
kabhi ham aa jaayenge ho
ruk jaa
rokataa hai ye deewaanaa
rooth ke mujhse naa jaanaa
dekhne waale samjhenge
ke tu hai
meri mahboobaa haan
ho ruk jaa

baithi hai haseenaa
tu sabse judaa kyun
ae shokh-adaa uth jhoom zaraa
naa jal hamaare pyaar pe
baithi hai haseenaa
tu sabse judaa kyun
bikharaa zulfen maayoos naa ho
koyi tujhse bhi kahegaa
ruk jaa
rokataa hai ye deewaanaa
rooth ke mujhse naa jaanaa
dekhne waale samjhenge
ke tu hai
meri mahboobaa haan
ho ruk jaa

zulf na aise uljhe
duniyaa galat naa samjhe
mashhoor ho naa jaaye
afsaanaa koyi
zulf na aise uljhe
duniyaa galat naa samjhe
mashhoor ho naa jaaye
afsaanaa koyi
ae jaan-e-wafaa
arre apnaa hai kyaa
tujhe chhedegaa zamaanaa
ruk jaa
rokataa hai ye deewaanaa
rooth ker mujhse naa jaanaa
dekhne waale samjhenge
ke tu hai
meri mahboobaa haan
ho ruk jaa
