Abke baras bhejo bhaiyaa ko baabul

Posted on: August 24, 2010

While posting songs from “Bandini” (1963), I had mentioned that even the “lesser” songs from this movie were gems. This movie has absolutely wonderful songs sung by Lata, Mukesh, S D Burman, Asha Bhonsle etc.

I have posted one song from this movie that was sung by Asha Bhonsle. Here is another song sung by Asha Bhonsle. Like the other Asha Bhonsle song, this song too is picturised on the same actress. Any idea who she is.

She is a prisoner in a jail that also houses Nutan. The earlier song picturised on her ( O panchhi pyaare saanjh sakhaare )was a superb joie de vivre song. This song on the other song is one of the saddest songs that one can come across. In this song, thae female prisoner is missing her brother and she longs to see her brother.

This song was a farmaish top be posted on the occasion of Raakhi and here is this fantastic song from “Bandini” (1963) on the occasion of Raakhi. How one wishes that no sister should ever have to undergo the same feelings of emotional deprivation as the character in this song is feeling.

Song-Abke baras bhejo bhaiya ko babul (Bandini) (1963) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Shailendra, MD-S D Burman

Lyrics

ab ke baras bhejo bhaiyaa ko baabul
saawan ne leejo bulaay re
lautengi jab mere bachpan ki sakhiyaan
dejo sandeshaa bhijaay re
ab ke baras bhejo bhaiyaa ko baabul

ambuwaa tale phir se jhoole padenge
rimjhim padengi phuhaaren
lautengi phir tere aangan mein baabul
saawan ki thandi bahaaren
chhalke nayan moraa kaske re jiyaraa
bachpan ki jab yaad aaye re
ab ke baras bhejo bhaiyaa ko baabul

bairan jawaani ne chheene khilaune
aur meri gudiyaa churaayi
baabul ki main tere naazon ki paali
phir kyun huyi main paraayi
beete re jug koyi chithiyaa na paati
na koyi naihar se aaye re
ab ke baras bhejo bhaiyaa ko baabul
saawan ne leejo bulaay re
ab ke baras bhejo bhaiyaa ko baabul

Good song. SD Burman & Shailendra should have worked more together.

Recently saw this movie. Nice movie, Bandini, and is full of excellent songs. There was a Patriotic song that I forgot to request last week (& sung by Manna Dey). It is coming in farmaish section 🙂

Yes, she is Mrs. kapoor. She was the wife of the Production Manager of Bimal Roy.
This is mentioned in the book ” Bimal Roy” by Shashikant Kinikar.
