Laage jisko wohi ye dukh jaane

Posted on: December 12, 2010

I have discussed over 3300 songs in this blog and more songs are being added every day. With so many songs in the blog, there is ample scope for interesting statistics about these songs.

For example, this blog now has songs from over one thousand movies. Artistwise breakup (music directorwise, lyricist wise and music directorwise) throws up some intersting figures. As many as 145 music directors, 185 lyricists and 218 singers have figured in this blog.

While most of these artists have small representations, the leading artists have clocked handsome figures for themselves. For example, Lata has as many as 1117 songs. She is the only artist to have songs in four figures. Rafi is following behind at 915 songs. Other leading singers in the blog are Asha Bhonsle (475 songs), Kishore Kumar (416 songs) and Mukesh (275 songs).

Among lyricists, Majrooh Sultanpuri leads with 368 songs, with Anand Bakshi on 332,Rajinder Krishan on 323 and Shailendra on 287.

Among music directors, Shankar Jaikishan are in the lead with 399 songs followed by Laxmikant Pyarelal on 286. S D Burman is third with 220.

In a way, the figures clocked by various artists represent their impact on the Hindi movie music during its golden era.

Looking at the figures of various artists, one can have an idea when one of them is reaching a landmark. For this blog, 100 songs marks should be considered a good landmark. An artist with at least 100 songs against his name shows that he has played a long and fruitful innings in the history of Hindi movie music.

So far the following artists have scored centuries of their own:

Singers-Lata,Rafi,Asha Bhonsle,Kishore Kumar,Mukesh,Geeta Dutt,Manna Dey, Talat Mehmood

Lyricists-Majrooh Sultanpuri,Anand Bakshi,Rajinder Krishan,Shailendra,Hasrat Jaipuri,Sahir Ludhianvi, Shakeel Badayuni

Music Directors-Shankar Jaikishan,Laxmikant Pyarelal, S D Burman, R D Burman, Kalyanji Anandji,Madan Mohan,Naushad,Ravi,O P Nayyar,C Ramchandra, Roshan,Chitragupta

All the above mentioned names are legends of Hindi movie music and they are rightfully there in this blog with over 100 songs each. Quantity is not everything, and there are many great artists who did not get enough opportunities to even create 100 songs, but they too are musical greats, as far as music lovers are concerned.

Then , there are many artists who are on their way to notch their centuries in this blog. One such artist is in fact completing his century with this song.

This song is the 100th song of Prem Dhawan as a lyricist. He thus bexcomes the 8th lyricist and 28th artist overall to complete his century in this blog.

The song under question is a song sung by Lata. This song is from “Pavitra Paapi” (1970). It is a background song which is picturised on Tanuja, Parikshit Sahni and others. Prem Dhawan is not only the lyricist, he is the music director of this song too.

Here is this moving song from “Pavitra Paapi” (1970).

Song-Laage jisko wohi ye dukh jaane(Pavitra Paapi) (1970) Singer-Lata,Lyrics-Prem Dhawan, MD-Prem Dhawan

Lyrics

laage jisko wohi ye dukh jaane
ke dil waale dukhde bure
rona padta hai dhuyen ke bahaane
ke dil waale dukhde bure
kate nahin ik pal bhi
ho kate nahin ik pal bhi
tootaa hai dil kuchh aise
kate re kaise umr na jaane
ke dil waale dukhde bure
laage jisko wohi ye dukh jaane
ke dil waale dukhde bure

ik agni mere seene bhadke
ik bhadke tandoor
ik agni
ik agni mere seene bhadke
ik bhadke tandoor
le jaataa wo yaar bhi apni
le jaataa wo yaar bhi apni
chalaa gaya jo door
bhoole jaate nahin guzre zamaane
ke dil waale dukhde bure
laage jisko wohi ye dukh jaane
ke dil waale dukhde bure

paap na sochoon
punyaa na sochoon
sochoon ye din rain
paap na sochoon
paap na sochoon
punyaa na sochoon
sochoon ye din rain
na to main aabaad huyi re
na to main aabaad huyi
na tumne paayaa chain
aise ghar se to achhe thhe veeraane
ke dilwaale dukhde bure
laage jisko wahi ye dukh jaane
ke dilwaale dukhde bure

All the songs of this film are so beautiful, as the movie was. Rather sad and tragic, but yet, beautiful.
