Dekho dekho jee piyaa milan ke din aaye

Posted on: April 2, 2011

Thaanedaar, viz inchange of the police station (Thaanaa) is a very important person as far as public are concerned. The original term for Thaanedaar, that old generation grew up with, is “Daarogaa”. “Darogaa” was much feared ( and therefore respected) by aam jantaa. Just as members of more educated sections of society aspired to become ICS (and later IAS) officers, members of lower rung of society aspired to become Policeman and from there to Hawaldaar and then rise up to the exalted post of “daarogaa”. Other posts that carried similar awe and shock among public was “Kotwaal”. There is in fact a saying in Hindi “Sainyya bhaye kotwaal to ab dar kaahe kaa” (My beloved has become kotwaal, so now I have noting to fear).

There is in fact a movie called “Daarogajee” (1949) where Jairaj plays the title role. A very young Nargis plays his love interest.

I have discussed one song from this movie in the past.

Here is another song from this movie. This song is sung by Geeta Dutt and it is picturised on Nargis. A wedding is taking place and the sahelis of the bride are singing a wedding song. Nargis begins to dream of her own wedding with Jairaj and sings this song.

The picturisation of this song is quite cute.

Manohar Lal Khanna, the lyricist has come up with wonderful lyrics. Bulo C Rani’s music is superb.

Here is this lovely song from “Daarogaa jee” (1949).Enjoy !

Song-Dekho dekho jee piyaa milan ke din aaye (Daarogaa Jee) (1949) Singer-Geeta Dutt, Lyrics-Manohar Lal Khanna, MD-Bulo C Rani

Lyrics

piyaa milan ke din aaye
piyaa milan ke din aaye
dekho dekho jee
dekho dekho jee
dulhan sharmaayee jaaye
piyaa milan ke din aaye
dekho dekho jee

dulhan sharmaayee jaaye
piyaa milan ke din aaye

raushan huye tere bhaagon ke taare
raushan huye tere bhaagon ke taare
raaten tumhaari hain din hain tummaare
raaten tumhaari hain din hain tummaare
nainon mein jhalke
man ki batiyaan
nainon mein jhalke
man ki batiyaan
ruki ruki angdaayi aaye
kyun
ruki ruki angdaayi aaye
dekho dekho jee

dulhan sharmaayee jaaye
piyaa milan ke din aaye

piyaa milan ke din aaye

dekho dekho jee
dulhan sharmaayee jaaye
piyaa milan ke din aaye
dekho dekho jee
dekho dekho jee
dulhan sharmaayee jaaye
piyaa milan ke din aaye

raushan huye mere bhaagon ke taare
raushan huye mere bhaagon ke taare
raaten hamaari hain din hain hamaare
raaten hamaari hain din hain hamaare
nainon mein jhalke
man ki batiyaan
nainon mein jhalke
man ki batiyaan
ruki ruki angdaayi aaye
kyun
ruki ruki angdaayi aaye
dekho dekho jee

piyaa milan ke din aaye

cham cham chamke maathhe ki bendi
cham cham chamke maathhe ki bendi
dam dam damke haathon ki mehandi
