O daataa o daataa de hamko bhi ek pyaaraa banglaa

Posted on: July 15, 2011

“Aji Bas Shukriya” (1958) was a movie starring Johny Walker and Geeta Bali. Yes, this movie had Johny Walker as the hero.

As can be guessed, this movie was a light hearted movie with fun songs in it.

Here is a lovely fun (or rather “fantasy” )song from this movie. In this song, Johny Walker and Geeta Bali dream of owning a big bunglow and request the Almighty to provide them one such bunglow because they are HIS devotee. Yes, demanding something for free from the Almighty without working for it is usual in Hindi movies. 🙂

This song is sung by Rafi and Asha Bhonsle with gusto. Farooque Qaisar is the lyricist and Roshan is the music director.

I became aware of this song only recently after the lyrics of this song were sent to me by nahm.

Lyrics(Provided by nahm)

O daata o daata
de hamko bhi ek pyaara bangla
arrey ham bhi tere chaahne waalon mein hain
o daata o daata
de hamko bhi ek pyaara bangla
arrey ham bhi tere chaahne waalon mein hain
o daata o daata

motor mein jaayen
phir ham bhi shaan se
oh yes yes
aur salaami len ham bhi darbaan se
oh yeah ho
Paaon hamaare choomte qaaleen hon
ah ha ha
daayen baayen peechhe naukar teen hon
hur rrr rrrrr ra rah
bijli ka pankhaa thhandi thhandi hawaa
dil ko udaa le jaaye
ho ho ho ho
dil ko udaa le jaaye
o daata o daata
de hamko bhi ek pyaara bangla
arrrey ham bhi tere chaahne waalon mein hain
o daata o daata

khuley aankh aur bister par chaai miley
ae bearer
radio pe koyi filmi dhun baje
tel maalish
jhoomte gaate gusal karne chalen
Oh yes yes
aajoo baajoo thhande fawware chalen
fur furrrrrr
marne se pehle mil jaaye yahin
kehte hain jannat jise
o ho ho ho
kehte hain jannat jise
o daata o daata
de hamko bhi ek pyaara bangla
arrrey ham bhi tere chaahne waalon mein hain
o daata o daata

laakhon ka dhandha ho telephoon pe
waah waah
London ks business ho Dehradoon se
arrey waah waah
milney aayen seth bangley pe bade
achcha ji
yoonhi batwaa company apni chale
Achcha ji
Meena kumaari Geeta Baali Dev Anand
Ah ha haha
dekh ke hamein jal jaayen
o Ho ho ho
dekh ke hamein jal jaayen
o daata o daata
de hamko bhi ek pyaara bangla
arrrey ham bhi tere chaahne waalon mein hain
o daata o daata
de hamko bhi ek pyaara bangla
arrrey ham bhi tere chahne waalon mein hain
o daata o daata

Atul ji,
AJI BAS SHUKRIYA(1958) was a hilarious movie,no doubt-what with a line up of funsters like Mukri,Tun Tun,Shammi,Shubha Khote,Agha and Johnny Walker.
In this movie,I am sorry to point out that, the Hero was NOT Johnny Walker, but the Hero was SURESH.
Johnny walker played the role of Chandu,Geeta Bali’s friend who helps her everytime.
The story,in short,is Geeta(GB) leaves her clerck’s job and gets into theatre, where with the help of Suresh(Suresh),she becomes Heroine. They develop love, but she has to leave theatre.Friend Chandu(JW) helps her and she becomes Heroine in films. After lot of misunderstandings/clarifications and funny incidents, everything is fine at the end.
Even with an unconvincing story, the director Mohd.Hussain kept the film sleek and interesting.Excellent music made the film a success.

Deshmukh Sir,

Thank u for the story re-cap. I had seen this film on T. V. as a child vaguely remembered that we all enjoyed it. Only the famous song “saari saari raat teri yaad ” remained in memory that it is from this movie the picturisation as singing on radio, on Geeta Bali.

Regards.
