Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Jaayiye jaayiye huzoor aapko kisne rokaa hai

Posted on: October 21, 2011

This article is written by Sudhir, a fellow enthusiast of Hindi movie music and a regular contributor to this blog.

Expressions of love are varied and come in multitude of flavors. And probably the largest collection of such flavors are the songs of Hindi films. It is remarkable that in each film, the poets, and the directors get together and attempt to present these expressions of love in novel and as yet untried ways. And so also in this film and this song. The entire song is presented with the hero firmly clasping one hand of the heroine and not letting her go, while all the time he is singing words, exhorting her to leave if she wants to, nobody is stopping her – Jaaiye Jaaiye Huzoor, Aapko Kis Ne Rokaa Hai.

Bandish is a film from 1969, the same year that the sounds of ‘Mere Sapnon Ki Raani’ propelled Rajesh Khanna into stardom, and Kishore Kumar to the top of singing charts. So many other movies and songs hit the headlines that year (Do Raaste, Inteqaam, Aayaa Saawan Jhoom Ke, Talaash, Pyaar Ka Mausam, Aadmi Aur Insaan, Khaamoshi, Ek Phool Do Mali, Prince, Jeene Ki Raah, etc.) that it was easy to miss and overlook six, (yes, six) releases of Usha Khanna. 1969 was maybe her most prolific year. And each of these films has inspired music compositions, and songs that are veritable gems to listen to. I say listen to because, yes, it is possible that in the sum total of the formula for success, these films are not endowed with major stars or associated major production house names. And yes the quality of the final product has its own story to tell. But the songs, in their own selves, and taken simply on the merit of poetry and music composition, are not a single notch below the songs that ruled the roost that year. And yet, these songs get treated like distant step cousins (Maybe what I have written is applicable in general to all years and periods). And that is the reason Atul ji and others keep on writing about obscure gems that need to be treated much better.

Produced under the banner of JJ Films, Bombay and directed by Charandas Shokh, the star cast of the film includes Shailendra, Sonia Sahni, Azra, Ulhaas, Sham Kumar, Mirza Musharraf, Kundan, Brahmchari, SK Prem, Sarita Devi, Uma Dhawan etc. The lyricist is yet another new name for this blog, Akmal Hyderabadi. I am not familiar with any other details about the film, and request our knowledgeable readers to please add more information if possible.

The song itself is enacted on screen by Sonia Sahni, and Shailendra, probably a newcomer to the industry at that time. The hero’s name does not sound very familiar to me, and also that I am not aware if he has acted in any other films also. Maybe not, if the mannerisms and the profile that he chooses to maintain while singing this song, is anything to go by.

The singing voices are of Rafi Saab and Krisha Kalle. The voice of Krishna Kalle sounds so sweet and relaxed in this slow paced song. One is more used to and more familiar with Krishna Kalle’s voice in songs with faster pace and higher notes.

All in all, a lovely song – to be enjoyed with the ears. 🙂

Song-Jaayiye jaayiye huzoor aap ko kisi ne rokaa hai (Bandish) (1969) Singers-Rafi, Krishna Kalle, Lyrics-Akmal Hyderabadi, MD-Usha Khanna

Lyrics

jaaiye jaaiye huzoor
aap ko kis ne rokaa hai
jaaiye jaaiye huzoor
aap ko kis ne rokaa hai
wo rahi aap ki manzil
aur ye mera rastaa hai
chhodiye chhodiye huzoor
haath mera kyun thaamaa hai
wo rahi aap ki manzil
aur ye mera rastaa hai

jaaiye jaaiye huzoor

keejiye pyaar ki baaten
dekhiye saath haseen hai
keejiye pyaar ki baaten
dekhiye saath haseen hai
aap se pyaar ki baaten
kya koi aur nahin hai

ae magroor
saaraa ye guroor
ae magroor
saaraa ye guroor
chaar ghadi kaa hai
jaaiye jaaiye huzoor
aap ko kis ne rokaa hai
wo rahi aap ki manzil
aur ye mera rastaa hai
chhodiye chhodiye huzoor

aa gayee aaj qayaamat
lag gai saath museebat
aa gayee aaj qayaamat
lag gai saath museebat

kar gaye aap shiqaayat
hai yehi cheez mohabbat
maan nahin maan
main tera mehmaan
maan nahin maan
main tera mehmaan
khoob tamaashaa hai
chhodiye chhodiye huzoor
haath mera kyun thaamaa hai
wo rahi aap ki manzil
aur ye mera rastaa hai

jaaiye jaaiye huzoor

ho gayaa pyaar ka waadaa
pad gayee pyaar ki bandish
ho gayaa pyaar ka waadaa
pad gayee pyaar ki bandish
kaun se pyaar ka waadaa
kaun se pyaar ki bandish

aise anjaan
honay se kahin
aise anjaan
honay se kahin
pyaar bhi chhuptaa hai
jaaiye jaaiye huzoor
aap ko kis ne rokaa hai
wo rahi aap ki manzil
aur ye mera rastaa hai
chhodiye chhodiye huzoor
haath mera kyun thaamaa hai
wo rahi aap ki manzil
aur ye mera rastaa hai

jaaiye jaaiye huzoor

Sudhir ji,
It was a marathon task to track the info about this Shailendra.
Shailendra was a son of a big businessman of Bombay and was very keen to make a career in films as a Hero,so the owners of JJ industry,Jag Jit Kalra produced this film under the banner of JJ Films. This was the only film where he played a lead role. I think, good sense must have prevailed over the father and the son and this was also his last film.Later he joined his father’s business.
The story of this film is about CID Inspector Anand, who is couragious, loyal and devoted to elimination of Traitors of the country.I thought, this was CBI’s job,but the producers of this film firmly believed that CID does this work.Anand is sent abroad to many countries and returns victorious everytime eliminating Traitors. But the supply of Traitors is in plenty in India hence he is appointed now in India.
He meets Shabnam in a train journey and becomes involved with her.The Traitors catch Shabnam(why her ? ) and Anand and they are brought to Lobo’s den.He wants secret info from Anand. That time Anand realises that Shabnam is their accomplice. He escapes from there and finds out that shabnam’s father is held by the Traitors.
After few reels,he,as expected, traces the culprits, arrests them and also captures Shabnam.Culprits are handed over to Police and Shabnam is kept for himself !
I would like to meet the story writer of this film and congratulate him for a totally original, intelligent, novel and first time storyline !
