Jeewan ki beena ka taar boley
Posted on: January 4, 2012
Today (4th january) seems to be an important day for Hindi movies, seeing that several artists were either born on this day or they expired on this day.
Nirupa Roy, who in the mind of most moviegoers of my generation was immortalised as the long suffering mother of the hero (typically Amitabh Bachchan), was born on 4th january.
When I began this blog, I was pleasantly surprised to know that Nirupa Roy was not just a long sufferiing on screen Maa in Hindi movies. For close to two decades prior to that, she had played lead roles as well. She played leading lady not only in B grade historical/ mythological movies, but sometimes in grade movies as well.
Her matronly looks made her an automatic choice for the roles of Bhabhi and subsequently Maa in the later stages of her career.
“Raani Roopmati” (1959) is one of the more important movies of Nirupa Roy, where she played the title role.
On the occasion of her birthday, here is a song from “Rani Roopmati” (1959). It is sung by Lata and it is picturised on Nirupa Roy. “Just watching at this video, can’t stop staring at her and admiring her real beauty.”. These are not my words, rather the words of Khyati Bhatt, who sent me the lyrics of this song.
This song is written by Bharat Vyas and music is composed by S N Tripathi.

jeewan ki beena ka taar boley
saanson mein sur ka singaar boley
hirday ki dhadkan mein pyaar boley
jaane kya boley
kya boley kya boley kya boley
ho jaane
kya boley kya boley kya boley
aaaa ahahaa ohoho
kisne sunaake sureelee si taan
mere kaanon mein ras diya ghol re
kiski raseelee tarangon ne mere
dil ko kiya daanwaadol re
dil ko kiya daanwaadol re
man ke chaman ki bahaar boley
koyal ki meethhi pukaar boley
jhaanjhar ki jhanjhan jhankaar boley
jaane kya boley
kya boley kya boley kya boley
ho jaane
kya boley kya boley kya boley
aaaa ahaha ohoho
saagar ki lehrein sunaaye re sargam
baadal ka rang hua laal re
kaisa yeh geet aaj gaaya gagan ne
dharti bhi dene lagi taal re
dharti bhi dene lagi taal re
chanda ki kirnon ka haar boley
ithhlaate jharnon ki dhaar boley
man ka papeeha baar baar boley
jaane kya boley
kya boley kya boley kya boley
ho jaane
kya boley kya boley kya boley
jeewan ki beena ka taar boley
saanson mein sur ka singaar boley
hirday ki dhadkan mein pyaar boley
jaane kya boley
kya boley kya boley kya boley
ho jaane
kya boley kya boley kya boley

She looks more beautiful eventhough her body is covered with clothes. She looks far more graceful than any of our recent Bollywood Actresses. And thats what I meant when I said “Just watching at this video, can’t stop staring at her and admiring her real beauty.” Like Atulji, I saw her in motherly role first and then while watching “Chhayageet” program on Doordarshan, I saw her song “Jara saamne to aao chhaliye”. Kaash us samay hamare paas internet ya Hindi Film Geet Kosh Hota! We could hear all oldies on radio but had to depend on just 2 hours of Doordarshan program.
