Jo dil mein khushi ban kar aaye

Posted on: June 6, 2012

This blog discusses Hindi movie songs from its beginning (1931) onwards though majority of songs discussed in the blog are from late 1940s to late 1970s, which is a period that is often regarded as the golden era of Hindi movie music. The songs discussed in this blog is a fairly good representation of the Hindi movie music of the golden era. Likewise the statistics pertaining to these songs (on the some stats ! page) give us a fair idea about the artists who dominated in this era.

When one looks at the “some stats” page one finds that Lata and Rafi are the most dominant singers of this era followed by Asha Bhonsle, and other dominant singers being Kishore Kumar, Mukesh, Geeta Dutt, Talat Mehmood etc.

If one looks at the music directors then the most dominant music director of the golden era turns out to be Shankar Jaikishan, followed by Laxmikant Pyarelal and S D Burman.

Among lyricists, the most dominant lyricist is Majrooh Sultanpuri. Name of the second most dominant lyricist of the golden era may come as a surprise to many fans but it comes as no surprise to me. It is Rajinder Krishan who is the second most dominant lyricist of the golden era as far as the songs of this blog is concerned, ahead of some well known names.

Rajinder Krishan, who has notched up 505 songs to his credit in this blog almost unnoticeably tended to be a low profile lyricists as far as music lovers were concerned, but he has written some of the most memorable songs of Hindi movies. Fans may not be aware of the details of these songs like name of lyricist etc, but these songs are well known evergreen songs.

Today (6th june) happens to be the birth anniversary of Rajinder Krishan. On this occasion, here is an evergreen song from one of his earlier movies, namely “Badi Behan”(1949). This song is sung by Lata. I am unable to identify the lady who lip syns this song. I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify her.

Music of this song is composed by Husnlal Bahgatram.

This song is the eighth song from this movie to be discussed in this blog. with this, all the songs of this movie has been covered in the blog.

Song-Jo dil mein khushi bankar aaye (Badi Behan)(1949) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Rajinder Krishan, MD-Husnlal Bhagatram

Lyrics

jo dil mein khushi bankar aaye
jo dil mein khushi bankar aaye
wo dard basaakar chale gaye
haay chale gaye
jo shama jalaane aaye thhe
jo shama jalaane aaye thhe
wo shama bujha kar chale gaye
haay chale gaye
jo dil mein khushi bankar aaye

jeewan ke chauraahe par koi
ee ee ee
ye poochh raha hai kismat se
jeewan ke chauraahe par koi
ee ee ee
ye poochh raha hai kismat se
haay kismat se
kyun aankh milaane aaye thhe
kyun aankh milaane aaye thhe
jo aankh churaakar chale gaye
haay chale gaye
jo dil mein khushi bankar aaye
jo dil mein khushi bankar aaye
wo dard basa kar chale gaye
haay chale gaye
jo dil mein khushi bankar aaye

o rone waale
ik too hi
ee ee ee
barbaad nahin hai ulfat mein
o rone waale
ik too hi
ee ee ee
barbaad nahin hai ulfat mein
haay
ulfat mein
is raah mein laakhon toote dil
is raah mein laakhon toote dil
aaye aur aakar chale gaye
haay chale gaye
jo dil mein khushi bankar aaye
jo dil mein khushi bankar aaye
wo dard basaa kar chale gaye
haay chale gaye
jo dil mein khushi bankar aaye

Atulji,
Thanks for posting this gem. This song would be in “Why I forgot…..” category at least for me.
