Hum behnon ke liye mere bhaiyya
Posted August 2, 2012
on:Today (2 august 2012) is the festival of Raakhi. Like most Indian festivals, this date of the festival depends of the Indian Saka calender rather than on the Gregorian calender. As a result, this festival falls on different dates on different years for people familar with the Gregorian calender.
When I look at the Raakhi festival songs that we have covered in the blog, I realised that this is the fifth Raakhi for this blog ! During these occasions, we have discussed lots and lots of Raakhi songs. In fact all well known Rakhi songs have already been covered by now.
The first Rakhi festival for this blog had fallen on 16 August 2008. On that occasion, I had discussed the iconic Raakhi song, viz. Bhaiyya mere raakhi ke bandhan ko nibhaana from (Chhoti Bahan)(1959). Those days I used to discuss only one song in a day. Those days I used to get less than one hundred visits a day. I had hoped that I would get lots of visits that day. And I was beside myself with joy when I found that the blog received nearly 300 visitors that day. 🙂
The next Raakhi fell on 5th August 2009. I had began to discuss 5-6 songs a day by that time and I discussed five songs that day, but only one of these songs was a Raakhi Song. That was another well known iconic Raakhi song viz. Bahnaa ne bhaayi ki kalaayi se pyaar baandhaa hai (Resham Ki Dori) .
The next Raakhi festival fell on 24 august 2010. I discussed six songs that day and all of them were Raakhi songs. They included well known Raakhi songs, viz. Mere bhaiyya ko sandeshaa pahunchaanaa (Didi) , Rang birangi raakhi leke aayi behnaa (Anpadh) , Abke baras bhejo bhaiyya ko baabul (Bandini) , Mere bhaiyya mere chandaa mere anmol ratan (Kaajal) , Phoolon kaa taaron kaa sabkaa kehnaa hai (Hare Rama Hare Krishnaa) and Ye raakhi bandhan hai aisaa ye raakhi bandhan hai aisaa (Beimaan) .
The next Raakhi festival fell on 13 August 2011. Five Raakhi festival songs were discussed that day which included Rakhiyaa bandhwaa le bhaiyya (Actor) , Raakhi kehti hai tumse bhaiyya (Ek Phool Ek Bhool) , Meri bhi koi behna hoti (Do Khilaadi), O meri laadli pyaari behna (Aatish) and Meri behna deewaani hai (Andhaa Kaanoon) .
On the occasion of the fifth Raakhi for the blog, we have already discussed six topical songs. Here is the seventh Raakhi song for the day. This song is from “Anjaana” (1969). This song could well qualify to be called “How come this Rakhi song was not discussed in all these years 🙂 ” song. The song is sung by Lata. I am unable to identify the lady lip syncing this song while playing Rajendra Kumar’s sister. I request our knwledgeable readers to help identify her.
P S-She is Nazima, the quinessential sister of the hero in those days. I thank Sudhir jee for identifying her.
Anand Nakshi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal.

ham behnon ke liye mere bhaiyaa
aataa hai ek din saal mein
aataa hai ek din saal mein
aaj ke din main jahaan bhi rahoon
chale aanaa wahaan har haal mein
chale aanaa wahaan har haal mein
ham behnon ke liye mere bhaiyaa
aataa hai ek din saal mein
aataa hai ek din saal mein
kitne din aur kitni rainen
is aangan mein rehnaa hai maine
kitne din aur kitni rainen
is aangan mein rehnaa hai maine
paradesi hoti hain behnen
baabul jaane
bhej de meri
doli kab sasuraal mein
chale aanaa wahaan har haal mein
ham behnon ke liye mere bhaiyaa
aataa hai ek din saal mein
aataa hai ek din saal mein
aa aa
aa aa
aa aa
main hoon bholi
bairi zamaana
bhaiya meri laaj bachaana
main hoon bholi
bairi zamaana
bhaiya meri laaj bachaana
is rakhi ki reet nibhaana
aisa na ho main tadpoon aise
bulbul jaise jaal mein
chale aanaa wahaan har haal mein
ham behnon ke liye mere bhaiyaa
aataa hai ek din saal mein
aataa hai ek din saal mein
