Jee chaahta hai ab to duniya se roothh jaayen

Posted on: August 3, 2012

This article is written by Shekhar Gupta, a fellow enthusiast of Hindi movie music and a regular contributor to this blog.

The Kidar Sharma-directed Jhaanjar (1953) was a joint venture of music director C Ramchandra and actor Om Prakash under the banner of New Sai Productions. Despite a star cast comprising Motilal, Kamini Kaushal, Om Prakash, Sajjan, Usha Kiran, KN Singh, Sunder, Protima Devi and Sheela Naik, it bombed at the box-office. But its melodies have survived the ravages of time.

Four songs from this movie have already been posted on this blog:

Ae pyaar teri duniyaa se ham,
Chhed gayo mohe sapne mein Shyam,
Jaa ri jaa jaa nindiyaa jaa,
and Mohey laage saaraa jag pheeka pheeka

Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh has also provided the storyline of this movie in his comment on one of the above numbers here.

My favourite from this movie is the poignantly sweet dirge penned by the great Kidar Sharma (1910-99), and the anguish of unrequited love so feelingly vocalized by Lataji only as she can: Jee chaahta hai ab to duniya se rooth jaayen.

The movie itself or the video clips of its numbers are not available on the Internet or even otherwise, as far as I know). But I would imagine it most likely filmed on Kamini Kaushal or on Usha Kiran.

Song-Jee chaahta hai ab to duniya se rooth jaayen (Jhaanjhar)(1953) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Kidar Sharma, MD-C Ramchandra

Lyrics

jee chaahta hai ab to
duniya se rooth jaayen
honthon pe aa rahi hain
ab maut ki duaayen
jee chaahta hai ab to
duniya se rooth jaayen
honton pe aa rahi hain
ab maut ki duaaen

o bewafaa zamaane,
dil ko laga ke dekha
aa aa
sab kuchh luta ke dekha
o bewafaa zamaane,
dil ko laga ke dekha
aa aa
sab kuchh luta ke dekha
apna samajh ke unko
apna bana ke dekha
aa aa aa aa
dil mein basa ke dekha
lekin milin wafa ke
badle hamen jafaayen
honthon pe aa rahii hain
ab maut kii duaayen

chalte na teer gham ke
dil na agar lagaate
ae ae ae
dhokhe mein aa na jaate
chalte na teer gham ke
dil na agar lagaate
ae ae ae
dhokhe mein aa na jaate
ye din na dekhte ham
aansoo na yoon bahaate
ae ae ae ae ae
do din to muskuraate
ghir-ghir ke yoon na aati
ashkon bhari ghataayen
honthon pe aa rahi hain
ab maut ki duaayen
