Atul ji,
ELAAN-1947 was mehboob’s path breaking film depicting Muslim life in India. It created a lot of controversies in that period and did not go too well with the fundamentalists of those days.here is a description of the film as I found in ‘Cineplot’.-(with thanks to Cineplot).
Mehboob Khan casted her in his controversial and most stylized Muslim social Elaan (1947). Elaan was the first and last film to look at Indian Muslims from the inside. It was melodramatic and rhetorical. But it did go into ‘forbidden’ areas and make statements which would be considered controversial even today. For instance, it legitimized marriage with a foreigner. It laughed at traditional Muslim reactions to women’s bare legs, it dealt in detail with Indian Muslims backwardness and lack of education. Elaan met with official disfavor because it showed Quranic reform as the way out and it was banned temporarily .

Bahut bahut dhanyavad, Arunkumar-ji! Aap tho bas ek encyclopedia hai hamare filmon ke bare me, bhai sahab! Munawar Sultana looked quite beautiful and she was a good actress too. Watch her in ‘Babul’. She was perfect against Nargis and Dilip Kumar.
Looks like ‘ELAAN’ would have faced the same fate had it been made today! Mehboob Khan ought to be lauded for making such a path breaking movie. What is ‘CINEPLOT’, Arunkumar-ji? Is it a website?

There is one additional line in this song which can only be found in the version released on record. Amirbai guides the chorus in singing “Maidaan mein utar aaye hain, baatil se ladenge, baatil se ladenge” prior to the “Elaan hai, elaan hai, elaan hai, elaan hai, elaan hamaara, elaan hamaara” part at the end.
