“Hera Pheri” (1976) was directed by Prakash Mehra. It had Amitabh Bachchan, Saira Bano, Vinod Khanna, Sulakshana Pandit etc in it.
Today (3 september) is the death anniversary of Anjaan, the lyricist of this movie. On this occasion, here is a song from “Hera Pheri” (1976).
This song, which is the title song of the movie, is sung by Mahendra Kapoor, Kishore Kumar and chorus. The picturisation shows crooks of various hues converging on a temple in the disguise of devotees singing this faux bhajan and the assembled devotees sing along in chorus, treating this song as a real bhajan.
Vinod Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan, both in disguise, lip sync in the voices of Mahendra Kapoor and Kishore Kumar respectively. A veritable who is who of Hindi movie baddies also gather as the song progresses, all of them eying the bounty available in the temple.
Anjaan is the lyricist of this song full with witticisms and tongue in cheek observations. Kalyanji Anandji composed the music.
This song, over seven minutes long, was easily the most popular song from this movie.

Atul ji,
The Listener’s Bulletin(of Hamraaz ji) No.105 of Nov 1997 published an obitury of Anjaan,in which it was reported that,” he died in Nanavati Hospital,Mumbai on 3-9-1997.”
The book,”hindi filmon ke Geetkar” also mentions 3rd sept as his date of death.

I checked the archives of Rediff News for 1997. It was mentioned there that Anjaan ”died on Wednesday at the Nanavati Hospital…….”. September 3, 1997 is Wednesday.

Thanks for checking up the archives and confirming the correct date.
Now it is mindboggling to realise that wikipedia and IMDB- which many people regard as authoritative sources puts up incorrect information. It is not just in this case, wikipedia has incorrect information about other movie personalities too, viz actress Sadhana, for instance.

This is how these so called prestigious sites give misleading info and it is spread by those who believe them.
Wikipedia had stated that Govinda’s mother ,the noted singer/actor NIRMALA DEVI was a muslim before marriage.Only when Mr.Surjit singh ji wrote to them with proof,they corrected the statement.
IMDB had declared a living ex-Heroine of Hindi(Kalpana) as dead.They even gave the date of her death.I wrote to them citing a newspaper item about her being alive and kicking in Pune,but that remained till Kalpana actually died recently.They did not change it .
It is very risky to depend on these sites wholely.

according to this link all the songs of the movie are written by ANJAAN,except “Yeh waqt ki heraa pheri hai”, which was written by Indeewar
But in our blog, this song has been credited to ANJAAN, which is wrong, the lyricist of this song is Indeewar/Indivar
(myswar,hindi geetmala all sites are wrong, according to this vinyl record)

As per IMD and Wikipedia, Anjaan died on 13th September 1997.

There are conflicting information about Anjaan’s death anniversary. Wikpedia and IMD seem to be the only source to put this date as 13 september.
