Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Hai bahaar e baagh e duniya chand roz

Posted on: September 27, 2012

Different people like different kinds of songs. When I was young, I loved to listen to light hearted and playful songs especially those sung by Kishore Kumar. Now I find that my taste has become more diversified. 🙂 I now like songs of lots of genre.

But there is one genre of songs that appeal a lot to me. And it is those songs that take a holistic view of the world and its happenings. Songs that tell us that time waits for none and everyone’s time in this world is up in due course.

We call such songs as philosophical songs which have the effect of keeping us on track when we find ourselves stuck in a rut while pursuing small term goals which do not count for much in the long run.

Young music lovers may or may not appreciate such philosophical songs. Personally I did not, when I was young. But I can easily identify with and appreciate the messages contained in these songs.

Take this song from “Bambai Ka Chor”(1962) for instance. I was aware of several songs from this movie, but not this song. As many as seven songs from this movie have been discussed in the past, and that includes the all time classic song, viz. Hasrat hi rahi hamse bhi kabhikoi pyar kaarta.

The song under question tells us that the joy, happiness and prosperity in one’s life is not eternal. The bahaar (bloom) in one’s life is only for a few days and then it will be gone. It is the same for ordinary people as well as big monarchs. An all conquering person like Alexander too had to bow down before time and time consumed him just like it consumes everyone else.

The message of the song is, we all have limited time at our disposal and let us not waste it by having differences with other. Let usse the time to live in harmony with others and make sure that our brief stay here is pleasant and useful for others, so that future may remember us with fondness.

I am not surprised that this song is written by Rajinder Krishan and that it has been composed by Ravi. Both to my mind have been silent and big contributors in enriching Hindi movies music with their contribution. And Rafi, who sings this song with his customary involvement and passion renders this song with feeling.

The lyrics of ths song were sent to me by Khyati Bhatt. This song marks her 200th lyrics contribution to this blog. And what a wonderful song it is to mark the occasion.

It is great to see that our contributors too are notching their own centuries in the blog these days. Khyati Bhatt becomes the fourth lyrics contributor to reach 200 songs mark. I also notice that this song is the 1300th lyrics contributed by our contributors.

Here is hoping that this musical bandwagon will continue to see lots and lots of centuries and other milestones from Khyati Bhatt. That applies to our other contributors as well, who are together keeping the blog buzzing with activity. Let us hope that the bahaar of this bandwagon will last for considerable duration before time finally takes its toll.

laakh Daara aur Sikandar ho gaye
aaj bolo wo kahaan sab kho gaye
aayi hichki maut ki aur so gaye

har kisi ka hai basera

I can identify Prathima devi,
I have seen another actor playing old man`s role in many movies(with specs and holding a gathari), but unable to identify him.
The Baba with long hair(who lip syncs for the song)with walking stick in the hand -whether he is Raadhe shyaam ??

I think the old man is S.K. Prem & the Baba is Chaman Puri; but i am not sure!

You are right Prakashchandraji. The Baba could be Radhey Shyam.

Atulji,
Thanks for the beautiful write up. Aapne to sone pe suhaaga lagaa diya. I was saving this song for a long, thinking about writing a beautiful philosophical post 😯 for the up lift of all the souls of this blog (including me) but then thought not to uplift these souls so high that they won’t/can’t look down to see others who are struggling down here. Atulji, you wrote it to the point as not to make them fly high and not to make them loose their faith/interest in this philosophy. Maan gaye ji aapko. What you have thought and experienced as a child and now as a grown up is no different than other common people like us. Like you have mentioned in you write up frequently, children should be left alone in their world of innocence. It’s only adults, who after maturity of biological age, needs the spiritual growth. Which I think is the normal and ideal path followed by so many spiritual leaders. There are few Masters who are born to continue their path on this search of the Almighty and after fulfilling their goal of merging with Thou, leave behind the essence of their experiences, which we call it as a knowledge, and the fragrance of their unselfishness work in the field of Humanity. Examples are Adi Sankaracharya, Swami Paramahansa, Swami Vivekananda, Swami Raman Maharshi and many more in the list. Sorry, got philosophical again. Thanks for all your support in these journey of “Double Century”. (I wonder why Sachin took so long to make his 100 centuries 😆 Hamare Sudhirji ne to write ups mein 400 runs bhi kabhi ke bana liye. Now, Prakashji is trying to catch him with his lyrics numbers.)
Sadanandji,
Your write ups/valuable info are more important than these numbers. The best ones I enjoy are ones with your trekking expreriences. Hope to see those often. Thanks for your kind words.
Nitinbhai,
Just go with the speed you did your century, you are not too far from me. I don’t dare to challenge you by saying “Catch Me if You Can”
Aruji,
Your encouraging words and your valuable info and details of Hindi Cinema are more important to me than these numbers. Thanks for all your support.
Nahmji,
Thanks to you too for kind words. You are talking about catching up with Prakashji- You know, the light of “Prakash”. Usko pakadne ki soch main to kyaa, duniya ki koyi taqat nahin kar sakti. 🙂 Arun ko chhune ki aur Praksh ko pakadne ki baat kabhi soch hi nahin sakti. Ek ka Tej itna hai aur doosre ki Gati/Raftaar. Just forget it!
Prakashji,
So sweet of you to support me through this journey and “tolerate” my “occasional” jokes, I may have written to you. Please forgive me if it ever has disturbed you. My turn to say – Agar bura laga ho, to “Catch Me if You Can” 😆
Again, Thanks to all.
Love and Regards,

Khyati ji ,
Congratulations.
To write up 200th times of the lyrics of song…that’s a commendable contribution.
I wish you the best to go for one more century quicker than this.
This song one of my favorite.
The way I look the meaning of this philosophical song in very short way:
” every thing is within you, without you in this material world”.

Thanks Derubalaji for encouraging me for another century. What you have said, is the message of all religion. We look outside for the pleasure and cause of our pain, but everything is just “within you”. It’s just the matter of how to unveil the layer of “Ignorance” which is covering the “Gyana” already residing in all Human being.
Shri Ramakrishna Paramhansa said, “If Sun is covered by the cloud, we can’t say there is no Sun”. Song of Yatrik,
“Tu dhoondhta hai jisko basti mein ya ke ban mein
woh saanwara salona rehta hai tere man mein”
is very close to my heart.
