In Indian calender, Lord Ganesh’s festival comes first and the festivals involving other Gods come then follow during the year. Today (19 september) is the death anniversary of Producer Tahir Hussain (19 september 1938-2 february 2010). He was the brother of noted producer Nasir Hussain. To the younger generation of movie goers, Tahir Hussain is the father of Aamir Khan. “Caravan” (1971), “Anamika” (1973), “Zakhmee” (1975) etc are some of the well known movies produced by Tahir Hussain.

“Ghazal” (1964) had three songs on the same tune and with somewhat similar sentences all ending in “….kise pesh karoon”. Two of these songs , viz. Naghma o sher ki saugaat kise pesh karoon and

Today (19 september 2012) is the death anniversary of Datta Davjekar (15 november 1917-19 september 2007). He was a music director of Marathi and Hindi movies. He did not compose music for too many Hindi movies, but his name has gone in record books as the music director who gave Lata her first opportunity to record a solo song in a Hindi movie. “Dhun” (1953) is by now an obscure movie. Little is known about this movie. This movie was a Silver Films Production. It was directed by someone called Kumar. the movie had Raj Kapoor, Nargis, Motilal, Pramila, Kumar, Kamal Mehra, Gulab, E. Billimoria, Cuckoo etc in it.

“Shehnaayi” (1947) was an amazing movie with extremely innovative and original kind of songs. We are fortunate that a print of this movie still exists. As can be seen from youtube, this print survived thanks to some private collector in Pakistan from where it was uploaded on YT. Now all the songs of this movie are available on YT.

Today (18 september) is the birthday of Shabana Azmi. Daughter of Kaifi Azmi and Shaukat Azmi, Shabana Azmi made her debut in arts movies in early 1970s. after a few years, she made it to the mainstream movies. She was a misfit in the usual leading lady kind of singing dancing roles, but she was good in roles that required some real acting. and she got roles that exploited her acting ability.
