“Roop Ki Raani Choron Ka Raaja” (1961) was a Rahul Theatres Production movie. It was produced and directed by H S Rawail. The movie had Dev Anand, Waheeda Rehman, Jeevan, Sunder, Hira Lal, Randhir, Jagdish Raj, Rajindar Nath, Sahira, Sheela Kashmiri, Manorama, Indira Bansal, Gautam Mukerjee, Babu Rao Pehlwan, Soda Water, Prabhu Arora, Rirkoo, Jasbir Singh, Ravi Kant, Sadhu Singh, Raj Kumar, Ghosh, Guddu, Satish etc in it.

This song is sung by Talat Mehmood and it is picturised on Dev Anand as a drunkard song. Talat Mehmood singind a bewda song for Dev Anand- this is something new for me. 🙂
Hasrat Jaipuri is the lyricist. Music is composed by Shankar Jaikishan.

It is interesting to note that the picturised version of the song has the word “suno bhai hamne PAA li hai thhodi”, whereas the original sentence of the song was “suno bhai hamne pee li hai thhodi”. The censors raised objection on this line and the moviemakers changed the word to “PAA” instead of “PEE” in the picturised version. However, the record version of the song retained the original word. So it would seem that censors were worried about the bad influence of the picturised version of the song but they felt that the audio version of the song was not going to badly influence the listeners. 🙂

It is quiet evident that this is a drunkard singing and if the censors had objection to the scene why did they change word “pili hai” to “paali hai”? Silly, I should say. Incidentally, I have heard this song with “pli hai” in place.

Original wordings of this song are ‘Suno bhai hum ne, pee li hai thodi…’ but due to Censor’s order, ‘Pee li.’ has been changed to ‘Paa li’.
Original record of 78 rpm may have original wordings!

Thanks for this interesting information. Strange were the ways of the censors at that time, seeing that so many drunkard songs of those days passed through censors unchanged.
