When the music is by Ganesh, one can be assured of a very lilting and melodious fare. ‘Anjaam’, a B grade film from 1968, has got a treasure of some excellent grade A music. Four wonderful songs from this film are already represented on this blog. Here is the fifth song from this film, another wonderful memory from the radio years.
‘Anjaam’ is a 1968 production from the banner of Sargam Chitra, directed by Shiv Kumar. The star cast includes Feroze Khan, Shahida, NA Ansari, Azad, Sunder, Sherry, Rajan Kapoor, Johnny Whisky, Helen SA Baker, Shri Bhagwan, Amar, Haroon, Yaaseen, Baadshah, Maulaana, Jeet, Darshan, Chandrakant, Sharma, Dalda, Jeevankala, Shabana, Lata Sinha. The songs of this film are written by three poets – Qamar Jalaalabaadi, Akhtar Romani and Zafar Raahi. This particular song is penned by Qamar Jalaalabaadi.
This is a dance song performed in a restaurant. One can see Feroze Khan seated at one of the tables. NA Ansari is occasionally visible from behind the scenes, watching the whole scene. There are two performers – one is the leading lady Shahida, who lip syncs the song on screen, but makes very little movements as the song progresses. To compensate, there is another dancer, who leads the dance troupe on the floor of the restaurant. I request my knowledgeable friends on the blog to help identify this second dancer in this scene.
Listen and enjoy this quintessential creation by Ganesh – music that is very lively and immediately endearing.

Song-Tujh ko sanam kyun maana (Anjaam)(1968) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Qamar Jalalabadi, MD-Ganesh
Lyrics
tujh ko sanam kyun maana
dil hai mera deewaana
tujh ko sanam kyun maana
dil hai mera deewaana
jaa re jaa
o bewafaa
jaa tu mera mehboob nahin
tujh ko sanam kyun maana
dil hai mera deewaana
mera badan hai sheeshey ka
jawaan jawaan meri adaa
mera badan hai sheeshey ka
jawaan jawaan meri adaa
chaaron taraf se aayee sadaa
ye dil gayaa
wo dil gayaa
haan magar
tujh ko kyaa
jaa tu mera mehboob nahin
tujh ko sanam kyun maana
dil hai mera deewaana
mehboob
la la la
mere. . . ae mehboob
pehle pehel o deewaane
jo tum miley to dil khilaa
pehle pehel o deewaane
jo tum miley to dil khilaa
aankh khuli to kyaa dekha
na tum miley na dil mila
kyun na phir
ye kahoon
jaa tu mera mehboob nahin
tujh ko sanam kyun maana
dil hai mera deewaana
dekh idhar ye teer-e-nazar
chaley to phir rukey nahin
dekh idhar ye teer-e-nazar
chaley to phir rukey nahin
teer chalaa to teri kasam
yaa tum nahin
yaa hum nahin
kyun tujhe
chhod doon
jaa tu mera mehboob nahin
