“Dekhi Teri Bambai” (1961) was an obscure (and I suspect badly delayed) movie. This Seetal Movies production was directed by Kailash Bhandari. This movie had Daljeet, Purnima, Sheikh, Radhika, Shammi etc in it.
The movie had A grade music as was the case with most B grade movies of that era. The song under discussion is sung by Geeta Dutt. It is picturised as a bar dance song cum club song which was common in movies of late 1950s. But there is one interesting difference in the picturisation of this song. The picturisation shows an all women band playing music in this song ! This may have been something new in Hindi movie club songs.
I have not been able to identify the actress lip syncing in Geeta Dutt’s voice. somehow she does not look like Purnima to me. I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify her and other actors visible in the picturisation.
PS-Mr Nayan Yagnik tells us that the dancer is Radhika (sister of Kumkum) and the two Pathans are Daljeet and Sheikh. It is invaluable information indeed.
Aziz Kashmiri is the lyricist. Vinod , who had died in late 1950s is the music director to this movie.
Here is this forgotten gem from this obscure movie. It is a wonderful song to listen to and watch.
Song-Dil ko bachaana aeji dil ko bachaana (Dekhi teri Bambai) (1961) Singer-Geeta Dutt, Lyrics-Aziz Kashmiri, MD-Vinod
Lyrics
ho ho
ho ho ho ho
hey
dil ko bachaana aeji dil ko bachaana
dil ko bachaana aeji dil ko bachaana
khaali nahin jaata
khaali nahin jaata meri aankhon ka nishaana
padega pachhtaana
tu dil na lagaana
dil ko bachaana aeji dil ko bachaana
duniya ki meethhi meethhi baaton mein na aana
duniya ki meethhi meethhi baaton mein na aana
hansna hai duniya mein rone ka bahaana
ho ho
ho ho ho
hansna hai duniya mein rone ka bahaana
lutne pe tere
lutne pe tere kahin hanse na zamaana
hey
dil ko bachaana aji dil ko bachaana
dil ko bachaana aji dil ko bachaana
khaali nahin jaata
khaali nahin jaata meri aankhon ka nishaana
padega pachhtaana
tu dil na lagaana
dil ko bachaana aeji dil ko bachaana
ankhiyaan milaake bhala kya phal paayega
ankhiyaan milaake bhala kya phal paayega
aag ke hain shole
tan man jal jaayegaa
ho ho
ho ho ho
aag ke hain shole
tan man jal jaayegaa
milega na kahin
milega na kahin
saans lene ka thhikaana
hey
dil ko bachaana aeji dil ko bachaana
dil ko bachaana aeji dil ko bachaana
khaali nahin jaata
khaali nahin jaata meri aankhon ka nishaana
padega pachhtaana
tu dil na lagaana
dil ko bachaana aeji dil ko bachaana
Nayanji,
I remember watching a talk show about siblings in Hindi Cinema and a song in which both the sisters have danced together was shown. Can’t remember which song/movie. Any idea?
Thank you.
The lady-drummer was a regular dance director. I think her name is Suryakumari. Yes the dancer has shades of Kumkum. The smoker is a regular villain. The Pathan with mustache is the one who was in Al Hilal who sang the qawali Hame to lut…..
This blog discusses Bollywood songs of yesteryears. Every song has a brief description, followed by a video link, and complete lyrics of the song. This is a labour of love, where “new” songs are added every day, and that has been the case for over SEVENTEEN years. This blog has more than 19700 song posts by now. This blog is active and online for over 6000 days since its beginning on 19 July 2008.

The dancer is Radhika (Younger sister of Kumkum) & two ‘Pathans’ are Daljeet & Sheikh.
Nice song, probably one of the last of Vinod’s!

Thanks for the information. The lady looked somewhat like Kumkum to me. It is nice to know that Kumkum’s sister too was in movies.
