This song from the film Ghajini (2008) is desert song no. 11. This movie is action thriller/Drama/romance film remake of a Tamil/Telegu film of same name released in 2005. The story is about a business tycoon, suffering from ‘short term memory loss’. He is out to take revenge for his girlfriend’s murder. The murderer’e name is the title of the movie. Due to his ‘Short term memory loss’ situation, he has all the important information concerning his life tattoo’ed on his body, so that he never loses sight of his mission. The song ‘tu meri adhoori pyaas pyaas ‘ is an imaginary song. A medical student has stolen the hero’s Diary where he has written his life story. The song is very picturisquely shot on location at Deadpan Desert in Namibia. While looking for songs in desert locations I saw this song again sometime back, and was left wondering what sort of location is this or is this the imaginary dream location. What is this whiteness in the middle of the brown sand, with sea on one side ? Truly fantastic dazzling visuals created by the white salt or snow. It is most likely salt, judging by the sub-tropical location of south western Africa. And both Aamir Khan and Asin are not at all colour co-ordinating with the location. In fact their multi coloured attire is standing out against the backdrop of white and browns. There are some skeletel trees sans greenary. No wonder this has become a favourite location for song shoots of South Indian films.
I was reluctant to discuss this song due to the uncertainty of the location and the fact that it is very new film and song. And the scanty attire of the actors specially Amir Khan strikes a discortant note. Or the shirts he was to wear were too small and he could not make the ends meet, actually or figuratively speaking 🙂 . This reminded me of a private Album video shot with Lisa Ray in the desert. The song was ‘aafreen aafreen’ by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan/Javed Akhtar. I think the skin display is quite unnecessary and distracting in both the cases.
Let us come back to song here. The lyricist is the talented Prasoon Joshi. A R Rehman is the composer and Javed Ali is the singer.
