Unlike the previous five Rakhi festivals that this blog has seen, the date of the festival this year has been in some doubt. Some people believe that it is today (viz 20 august 2013), while others feel that it is on 21 august 2013. And that leaves me in a dilemma as to when to discuss the Rakhi songs on this occasion.
I have asked a few knowledgeable people and now I gather that Rakhi festival begins today at around 11 AM and ends at around 7 AM tomorrow. In other words, the festival of Rakhi is today for all practical purposes.
If this blog was a TV channel, then we would have no problem finding Rakhi songs to discuss. 🙂 Take the usual well known Rakhi songs that everyone is well aware of and discuss them and that is all. In fact, most TV channels will do the same thing. They will discuss the same well known Rakhi songs from “Chhoti Behan”, “Kaajal”, “Resham Ki Dori”, “Andha Kanoon” etc. that they have always done on this occasion.
But this blog is not a TV channel. We discuss a song only once. All the well known Rakhi songs have already been discussed during the past five Rakhi festival occasions. So we have to dig deep and come up with lesser known and even rare Rakhi songs this time.
Here is a rare song from an obscure movie called “Samaaj””(1954). This movie was produced by Ashok Kumar and directed by Vasant Joglekar. The movie had Ashok Kumar, Anoop Kumar, Sumati Gupte, Shashikala, Usha Kiran, Agha, Leela Misra, Samson, N. Hussain etc in it.
This Rakhi song is sung by Geeta Dutt, Shankar Dasgupta and chorus. Only the audio of this song is available and so it is difficukt to say how and on whom this song is picturised. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the picturisation of this song.
Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist. Music is composed by Arun Kumar Mukherji.

i got to know the reason for this that it seems the muhurat for tying of rakhi falls from today evening 4 o’ clock to tomorrow morning 8.30 or so.
