Nainon se naina milaa ke : Song No. 2
———————————————

When we were studying in school, we had a period once in a week reserved for ‘deeni ta’aleem’. It used to be one of those time-paas periods, where teacher would come or just leave the kids be minded by the class monitors. This was not part of the exams, so it made no difference whether some things were taught or not. This subject was not even graded like the other subjects of ‘Physical Education’ or ‘ home science’ etc.

Religious studies were as it is considered the prerogative of parents at home, school had no responsibility. One of the earliest lessons learnt in this subject, was that there were supposedly two angels on both our shoulders. The angel on the right shoulder records all our good deeds and the angel on left shoulder records all our bad deeds. Such a record of ones deeds, good and bad is kept, as we are answerable for them on the day of judgment. The underlying meaning is God Almighty is always watching us, and nothing is ever hidden from him. We are answerable for each and every act of commission or omission, to the Almighty We were also taught that whenever we help anyone, or a good deed is done with the right hand, do it so quietly that even the left hand shouldn’t know about it. Because the God Almighty knows and that is what really matters.

That was fine as far as the lesson went, but me with my child’s logic used to think that how is it possible for someone to keep records of the deeds of all human beings, there are so many of us and so many have gone before us. It took some decades for me to come to the conclusion that if the multi-mega GB’s of data floating around the net is the creation of human mind and all round surveillance is a reality today, than this definitely could not be beyond the capacity of the Creator himself.

I wish the lines of demarcation between right and wrong, true and false, black and white were as clear now as they were than. I am frequently in a fix due to the twisting question my son keeps asking. Anyway, the important thing here is the awareness of a problem. Problems can be solved. All one needs is a will to solve the problem, the rest as they say is mind’s job.

This song is from the film ‘Vidyarthi’ (1966). It is a duet by Mohammed Rafi and Usha Timothy. As per the excel sheet it is picturized on Trideep and Surekha. Madhukar Bihari is the lyricist and Babu Singh is the music director. One song from this film is posted here .

This is the song no. 2 of “Nainon se nain mila ke ” series. Despite the lesser known team, the song is a known/heard one, at least I knew it well before finding this for the series.

Once my son when he was a kid asked me why we have to close our eyes while the God is partaking the naivaidh as he does eat not any. I was flummoxed but recovered quickly explaining that as he has to eat from innumerable houses he takes very very little which is not perceptible to our eyes or else he may land up with indigestion!!!

Thanks Nahm Sir for this excellent series and this wonderful song. What a melody created by Babu Singh Saab and Madhukar Bihari Saab. A rare type of duet where combination of both Rafi Saab and Usha Timothy used very well. Unlike most duets (except comedy songs 50s of Kishore Kumar, Chitalkar etc) where all antraas having two three lines tailed by mukhda with a symmetry, here an unique unsymmetry in both the verses made by MD. Its needless to say anything about Rafi Saab singing but here Usha ji compete Rafi Saab very well. A song must listen.

Sir, here I am offering a small correction in the second line of first antra sung by Ushaji

bholapan baaton mein le
bholapan aankhon mein le

Here instead of “bholapan” it is “balapan” as

bholapan baaton mein le
BALAPAN aankhon mein le

Thanks
