Atul Song-A-Day 10K Song Milestone Celebrations – 2
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

People familiar with the blog may have noticed that the blog was living upto its name these days and just a few songs were being discussed in a day for the last several weeks.

The original intention was to arrive at the ten thousandth song in the blog by April end/ beginning of may. But like government projects, this target began to get postponed. 🙂 Even the revised target of first half of june could not be met. Then I got an idea, and several other regulars too arrived at the same idea independently that we may as well time the ten thousandth song to be posted on 19 july 2014 !

19 july 2008 was the day when this blog was born. So touching 10k mark on the sixth birthday of the blog has a nice ring about it. And so that is what has been decided.

That target is some two weeks away and we have just over 50 songs to go for that target. So it means that we will go at a rate of around four songs a day from here onwards till the D day. One or two writeups every day from here onwards will be by guest posters who will share their views on the occassion. These writeups will be preceded by writeups that will introduce these guest posters. In addition, we will sometimes sneak in a few “normal” posts as well.

We begin the process now, with this post in fact. I will use this post to introduce the guest poster whose write up follows in the next post.

I was faced up with a very basic problem when I began this writeup. What do I know about the guest author ? Frankly speaking, I knew very little about her. So what do I do next. Should I try to discreetly find out things about her the way I try to find out details about obscure songs and movies? 🙂

I tried it and googled her name. 🙂 Neither google nor facebook etc were of much help. 🙂 I only knew that she was an HFM lover who commented in this blog as well as in similar blogs and that she had written a post in the blog.

When my search yielded little result, I changed the strategy. It was time to ask the knowledgeable readers of the blog. It is a strategy that has worked well for me in the past.

But who is the knowledgeable reader whom I should turn to ? I decided that the guest poster herself should be asked to share information about her. So I contacted her and requested her to tell us more about her. In a way, I was asking her, “Sholay” style-” Tumhaara naam kya hai, Aparna ?”

Aparna H M, the guest author of the next post has shared some information about her.

She says that she is a 1970s child but she would not tell whether it is early, mid or late 70s. “LOL, I am a lady you know :-D)”-she states. “She is a bachchi”- would be the verdict of my wife, who describes people born in 1970s and later as bachche (kids). 🙂

Aparna H M is a native of Mysore and she did all her education in that beautiful laid back place.

She described her initiation into music in these words:-

My introduction to HFS was through my dear uncle who is an ardent fan of 1930s-1960s film songs of both Hindi and Kannada. Every night, we together listened to Chaayageet on Vividh Bharathi. I, probably never listened to the next program “Aapki Farmaish” as I would have slept by then 🙂 Another influence was my neighbour and a dear friend who carried a transistor radio everywhere she went when she was at home. May God give her peace, RIP Javi.

As for her favourite HFS, it is “aa chal ke tujhe main le ke chaloon”, mainly for the atmosphere it creates.

She has this to say about her other interests:

My other hobbies include reading books, especially what are called classics. Modern authors don’t make much sense to me like the 1980s and later HFS. Favourite book is the universally loved “Pride & Prejudice” by Jane Austen. My other hobby is travelling which I have not done as much as I want to do. I still cherish the uphill car journey that we made to Ooty with clouds amidst us right from the base of the mountains.

Aparna H M now stays as Bangalore “..for the same reason as most others do, for job. Alas, I still cannot call Bangalore my home. I miss my sweet little native!”

She works in software industry but it is in the supports department (and not software per se), System Administration to be precise.

Waah! waah ! What varied interests and qualifications ! So she is one of the many Karnataka based regulars of this blog. We certainly have good presence of regulars in various states and cities of India. 🙂 And when I think about it, I too have stayed in severel of these states for some time in the past. For instance, I was a Kannadiga from 1994 to 1996 when I used to stay at Hubli. 🙂

Yesterday, we kick started the countdown to 10,000 by a post by Sudhirji. From today onwards, we start introducing our contributors. We will have a writeup introducing a contributor (like this writeup), followed by a writeup by the contributor.

We had requested all our contributors to send in their articles on this occasions. Most articles are now received. Some contributors have not yet done so. I hope that they will be able to sent their articles too. In case a few of them are unable to send their writeups, we will still go ahead and write introductory posts about them as well. We hope to cover about two contributors every day for the next two weeks or so.

So here is the first such post that introduces our contributor Aparna H M.

I have chosen to present a song from “Roop Sundari” (1964) on this occasion. This song is sung by Lata. Bharat Vyas is the lyricist. Music is composed by Sardar Malik.

This obscure B grade movie was directed by Chandrakant Desai for Chitradoot Productions. This movie had Mahipal, Anita Guha, B.M.Vyas, Sunder, Ratnamala, V.Gopal, Laxmi Chhaya, Bela Bose, Shabnam etc in it.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra.

Only the audio of this song is available.I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the picturisation of this song.

Even without the video, this is a nice song to listen to, which I heard for the first time only just now.

Lyrics(Provided by Prakashchandra)

aaa aa aaa
aa aa aa
aaa aaa aaa

main tumhaari raagini
tum geet ho
main tumhaari raagini
tum geet ho
ek janam kyaa
har janam ke meet ho o o
geet ho
main tumhaari raagini
tum geet ho

jab se dekhi teri soorat saanwri
ban gayee raadhaa tumhaari baawri
main milan ki madhur belaa
tum milan ki reet ho o
geet ho
main tumhaari raagini
tum geet ho

preet ki baazi lagi chitchor se ae
tum khinche aaoge kachchi dor se
dekhti reh jaaye duniyaa
teri meri preet ho o
geet ho
main tumhaari raagini
tum geet ho
main tumhaari raagini
tum geet ho
ik janam kyaa
har janam ke meet ho o
geet ho
main tumhaari raagini
tum geet ho

Yesterday night only we had this discussion at home- about Atul ji’s posts and his writing. i was telling my daughter Ashwini about how amazing it is to read Atul ji’s post and the words he used. recently i had read his post on ‘dil to hai dil, dil ka aitbaar…’and how described that ‘one sided crush Amitabh having of Rakhi.. 🙂 so here again is this amazing post by Atul ji. i hv also suggested my elder daughter who is doing journalism to read and go through the posts on our blog. 1/2

Excellent idea, Avinashji. Ashwini should read a lot of online posts. Some of these have top-quality write ups.

Hello Atulji,

Thanks for introducing me superbly to the Atulites!!
Long live the blog!!!

@Avinashji, you said it right, Atulji is very innovative. I miss Atulisms which were plenty in the beginning of the blog.

@Atulji, please make time to write your posts with your treademark humour. It is a sincere request 🙂

Atul, funny to hear what your wife ahs to say about the 70s and post-70s born! 😀 So I would be a bachchaa for her too!
I find this idea of introducing the contributors simply great. It brings the family together!
Lovely song!

Yes, I also thought so about Atulji’s wife’s comment. I don’t think she is elder to me by too many years. Well, I love to be called a bacchi 😀 Long time since anybody called me so!

The idea of introducing contributors is a great one. I was hoping to hear about our Atulji and Sudhirji, are you people listening?

Expect that you will be contributing too, about a song by your favorite combo of singer, MD and director.

I think everybody’s turn will come. So, I’m lying back and enjoying the ride.
My contribution will be coming soon as well. In fact half of it has arrived already.
Looking forward to hearing from you more often. 🙂

So the ball has started rolling. 🙂

In typical Atul style, he says, like a government project, it got postponed. Arrey, ki faraq painda hai – at least it is still going live. 🙂 And we all know that there are many govt projects that don’t see the light of day, for a whole host of reasons. 🙂

This was a lovely intro, Atul. It is a nice idea to first introduce a contributor. Will be keenly following all the 10K posts here – both the intro ones and the contributor ones. 🙂

Atul ji,

I hope to catch all the anniversary posts as it is a good way of getting to know the fellow contributors even better.

Lovely idea, Atul. And all the best. This series is going to be a winner.

So lovely to know about Aparna.

Atul, Your wife has a nice way of categorising bachchas! I am at an age when I just assume everyone is younger than me. Now beta trips off my tongue readily for everyone.

Best of luck to all.

Thandapaniji, I wish I become like you in this aspect soon. I still get furious when a 30 something calls me auntie. I should change, it is high time 😀

I am lucky there. I have younger friends and they call me by name. 😀

I have a friend who usually retaliates by saying “Auntie nahi, mataji bolo’. Hehe.

A very nice introduction of Aparnaji through the post and then by HER OWN COMMENTS. Not sure if West part of the world is considered advance in this “categorizing bachhas”. I was introduced as an auntie at the early age of 29 years by a 49 years YOUNG 😉 man 😮 who loves being called Bhai at the age of 70+. 😯

Your experience is so fuuny, rofl.

This blog makes my day, it always warms my heart.

I think I didnt put my reply across the way I wanted. I meant to say that the 70+ baap+bhai’s behaviour is funny. It is no fun to tolerate such people, I can understand your point completely.

Guess what! While I am reading your comment, that 70+ bhai is sitting in front of me. 😯
