Tann jaley mann jalta rahey

on:Today (5 august) is Salil Chaudhary’s death anniversary. Salil Chaudhary (19 november 1922- 5 september 1995) was one of the pioneers in the field of Hindi movie music. He composed music mainly in Bangla, Hindi and Malayalam movies and left his mark in movies of all three languages.
He is of course known the most for his music in Hindi movies. He made his debut in Hindi movies with “Do Beegha Zameen” (1953). Later on, he composed music in just over 75 Hindi movies.
In Hindi movies, his breakthrough came in “Madhumati” (1958). All the songs of this movie became very popular and remain so to this day.
All the songs, did I say ! The music lovers did not have the privilege to watch all the songs that Salil Chaudhary composed for the movie.
Here is what Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh, our inhouse encyclopaedia has to say on this matter:
When I had interviewed Ramesh Advani, son of BHUDO ADVANI, for a guest post on memsaab blog last year, he had told me the story behind this song.
It seems this funny song was entirely filmed on Bhudo Advani, who plays the Bhagat who claims to remove Bhoot from people’s bodies.
The song is sung by Dwijen Mukherjee and chorus. The mukhada is ‘ tan jale tan jalta rahe…’
Bhudo was invited for the premier of Madhumati in Liberty cinema in Bombay. When he went and saw the film, he was shocked to find that this song was completely edited off from the film. A fuming angry Bhudo wrote a very strong worded letter to Bimal Roy next day, but no reply came. Later, it seems, he learnt that the song was so good that it was felt that Johnny Walker’s song and character may get affected, hence it was deleted.
Recently, some kind soul has uploaded the audio of this song on YT.
We are fortunate that at least the audio of this song survives and some kind soul has recently made it available for music lovers to savour.
On the occasion of Salil Chaudhary’s death anniversary (5 september), here is this deleted song from “Madhumati” (1958). This song is sung by Dwijen Mukherjee and chorus. This song also has an unidentified voice, which could be that of Bhudo advani himself, though I am not sure. Knowledgeable readers are request to listen to this voice and help identify this voice.
Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist. Sudhir jee informs us that the lyrics of this song are by Majrooh Sultanpuri, unlike the other songs from this movie which were penned by Shailendra. That way, this could well be one the very few movies where Shailendra and Majrooh Sultanpuri both contributed lyrics.
Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Khyati Bhatt.

tan jale man jalta rahe
ha khoon paseena dhalta rahe
jeewan ka aara chalta rahe
ho ho
tan jale man jalta rahe
ha khoon paseena dhalta rahe
jeewan ka aara chalta rahe
ho ho
ho oo oo oo
ho oo oo oo
ye hai zindagi pyaare
kaanton mein din guzaare
phir bhi na haare
ae ae ae
tan jaley man jalta rahey
haan khoon paseena dhalta rahe
jeewan ka aara chalta rahe
ho ho
suno saiyyan kahaani
kati van mein jawaani
latt khul ke bikhar gayi re
umariya saari yoonhi guzar gayi re
umariya saari yoonhi guzar gayi re
suno saiyyan kahaani
kati van mein jawaani
latt khul ke bikhar gayi re
umariya saari yoonhi guzar gayi re
umariya saari yoonhi guzar gayi re
gori tujh ko sambhalna hoga
haay haay re
mere sang sang chalna hoga
haay haay re
jaane kab tak chalna hoga
haay haaye re
ho jaane kab tak chalna hoga
haay haay re
tan jale man jalta rahe
ha khoon pasina dhalta rahe
jeewan ka aara chalta rahe
ho ho
ye hai zindagi pyaare
kaanton mein din guzaare
phir bhi na haare
ae ae ae
tan jaley man jalta rahey
ha khoon paseena dhalta rahe
jeewan ka aara chalta rahe
ho ho oo oo
tan jale re
ae ae ae
man jale re
ae ae ae ae
tan jale re
ae ae ae

Atul ji,
Three items with reference to this song.
The corrections for (??) in lyrics.
The lines
suno saiyyan kahaani ???
jawaani ?? bikhar gayi re
Should read as
suno saiyyan kahaani
kati van mein jawaani
latt khul ke bikhar gayi re
Shailendra has written all songs for this film, except this one song. This song is penned by Majrooh Sultanpuri.
The audio of this song was formally released along with the rest of the songs of this film, and has always been available – it is not a rarity. I have the audio cassette of this film which I purchased in early 80s. It contains this song.

Thanks for the missing words as well as about the name of the lyricist. Any idea who could be the person behind the male voice ?
