“Saheli” (1965) was produced by Sirishchandra Poddar and directed by Arjun Hingorani. The movie had Pradeep Kumar, Kalpana Mohan, Babloo, Rajendranath, Sulochana Chatterjee, Vijaya Chaudhary, Murad, PratimaDevi ,Tuntun, Paul Sharma, Polson, V.Kumar(Introducing), Sushil Kumar, JankiDass, Johnny Whisky, Bhudo Advani, Yunus Parwaiz etc in it.

Five songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is the sixth and final song from the movie. This song, the least known of the songs from the movie is sung by Rafi with gusto. This song is picturised as a car song cum teasing song. The picturisation shown Kalpana and her sahelis going by a vehicle while Pradeep Kumar and his friends (Polson, Yunus Parvez, Jankidas etc) are pursuing them in another car. Pradeep Kumar the hero lip suns the song. Under these circumstances, the heroine is supposed to act scandalised and she has to resist the passes that the hero is making on her. But here the heroin is shown enjoying tjis attention right from the beginning of the song, rather than from the last line of the last stanza , unlike what happens in most songs of such genre.

Indeewar is the lyricist. Kalyanji Anandji composed the music and the fact that their music those days often used to sound similar to Shankar Jaikishan is borne out in this song.

Yesterday (24 august) was the death anniversary of Kalyanji. Here is this song as a (belated) tribute to Kalyanji.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra.

With this song, “Saheli” (1965) joins the list of movies that have all their songs covered in the blog.

Song-Bahaane kyun karti ho (Saheli)(1965) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Indeewar, MD-Kalyanji Anandji

Lyrics(Provided by Prakashchandra)

shaabbaash badshaahaaon ha

bahaane kyun karti ho
hampe tum bhi marti ho
bahaane kyun karti ho
hampe tum bhi marti ho
abhi toh nayaa saath hai ae
aaj hansi toh kal bhi hansogi
pyaar kisi din karne lagogi
thhode dinon ki baat hai ae
bahaane kyun karti ho o o o

sabse tum judaa sahi
husn ke khudaa sahi
adaa hi adaa sahi
hum bhi bure toh nahin
nazar maikadaa sahi
zulf ik ghataa sahi
tumpe sab fidaa sahi
hum bhi bure toh nahin
kahaan tak tadpaaogi
raah par aa jaaogi
kahaan tak tadpaaogi
raah par aa jaaogi
abhi toh nayaa saath hai
aaj mili toh
kal bhi milogi
aah kisi din bharne lagogi
thode dinon ki baat hai
bahaane kyun karti ho o o o o

rang ke nikhaar par
roop ki bahaar par
anokhe singaar par
tumko agar naaz hai ae
gham- e- intezaar par
dil-e-beqaraar par
hamein apne pyaar par
tum se badaa naaz hai
ajee yeh gussaa chhodo
abhi se dil na todo
o
ajee yeh gussaa chhodo
abhi se dil na todo
abhi toh nayaa saath hai ae
aankh jhuki toh
dil bhi jhukegaa
ab yeh milan toh hoke rahegaa
thhode dinon ki baat hai
bahaane kyun karti ho
hampe tum bhi marti ho
o
bahaane kyun karti ho
hampe tum bhi marti ho
abhi toh nayaa saath hai ae ae ae
aaj hansi toh kal bhi hansogi
pyaar kisi din karne lagogi
thode dinon ki baat hai ae
bahaane kyun karti ho

Thanks for the post and song.
Two more films to go for touching the milestone of 500 films (all songs covered). By end of this week that milestone too will be surpassed. Great.
Let me too pay my tributes to Kalyanji.
What is the name of the village, where he was born. Was it Mangalwadi?
