“Actress”(1934), also known as “Bambai Ki Mohini”(1934) was directed by Balwant Bhatt for Prakash Pictures, Bombay. THis was the debut movie for this production house. The movie had Miss Panna, Miss Alaknanda, Bachhu, Kashinath, Lallubhai, Harishchandra etc in it.

Here is a rare song from this obscure movie from the earlier days of HFM. This movie had twelve songs in it but records were issued for only six songs. Details about the singers of the songs of the movie are not known.

The song under discussion is mentioned as “Kaahe maare” in HFGK, but listening to the song reveals that the words “kaahe maare” appears only towards the penultimate stanza of the song. The title of this song should be “Laage tore nainwa ke baan”. The song begins with this line and this line is repeated seven times in the song. The song in fact basically consists of just three or four lines that are repeated several times and that constitutes the whole song.

The song is sung by a female voice that has not been identified in HFGK. I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify the voice.

Going by the sounds of it, this song appears to be a mujra song (with voices of clients also audible in the song).

Pt Anuj is the lyricist. Music is composed by Lallubhai Nayak.
