If I liken songs in the blog to rain drops, then one must say that the blog is suffereing from less rain fall this year compared to last year. 🙂 From a regular downpour of six songs a day, we are these days reduced to a trickle of one or two songs a day and there have been even some dot days in the blog. The last century celebration in the blog happened ages ago, viz on 3 may 2015, exactly 50 days ago.
The last big celebration on the blog in fact happened 11 songs later on song number 11111 (on 9 may 2015). This magic figure of 11111 was celebrated by combining as many as five separate individual blog centuries. This song was the century song for Kishore Kumar, Mukesh, Rafi, Laxmikant Pyarelal as well as for our own Sudhir ji. Five centuries rolled in one- this was quite a feat indeed as it involved discussing the only song that had brought together the above mentioned three major male playback singer for the first and only time in the history of HFM.
One major reason for the slow going was obviously the fact that it was may, which happens to be summer season. During our school days, we enjoyed summer vacations. There is no summer vacations for working peope though. Seeing that I live in one state, my wife lives in another state and our daughter lives in a third state, we sometimes try to visit each other, even if for just a few days. My wife had taken one month’s leave in may to stay with me and only to visit our daughter. In addition to staying here with me, she also went to visit our daughter twice (first alone and the next time with me). So there were lots of journeys involved during this one month period. Even otherwise I had decided to take the line of least resistance which meant avoiding being seen on the computer when my wife was looking. 🙂 I still managed to post some articles while pretending to use it on her behalf. 🙂
My wife has left one week ago but the momentum that I lost during that period is yet to be regained. Moreover, I find that the background work that is required to be done for each post now aa days takes considerably more time that what it used to take in the past. That is another reason why we struggle to post more songs in the blog even if I have theoretically all the time in the world. Considerably more reaseach is involved these days than what it used to be in the past. It must be said though that we are on the right track and the list of songs that we have build up are already quite handy and exhaustive reference materials for music lovers.
In the beginning of the year, I had made a resolution that I would post one YIPPEE song a day. I managed to stick to this resolution for several weeks before I gave it up. But still we are reaching astage when we will suddenly find ourselves with lots of movies with just one or two songs left and then we will have no option but to post lots of YIPPEE songs every day.
Songs marking first centuries of artists, as well as songs marking anniversaries of artists have been neglected in the past few weeks. I hope that it is just the lull before the storm.
A few of our regulars have their own “Series” of posts going on in the blog. I too have started my own series in the blog which is an ambitious series where I have been discussing the basics of music. This is quite a technical subject and the more one dives into it, the more technical and interesting it becomes. This topic calls for lots of reading and research and I find that I am gaining lots of new information about music that I was not aware of in the past. Armed with these technical knowledge (however sketchy they may be), one can enjoy HFM songs that much more. I have been revisiting lots of songs discussed in the past. I find that I am now able to appreciate these songs better than what I used to do in the past.
The above research, learning and subsequent revisit of songs earlier posted in the blog obviously takes time and eats into the time that one can devote for discussion of songs.
Yesterday (21 June 2015) was a day of Days. It was (i) International Yoga day (ii) World Music day (iii) Longest day of the year (iv) Father’s day (v) International surfing day (vi) World Hydrography day (vii) world humanist day etc etc.
The fact that 21 june 2015 was World Music day tempted me to try and use that day to post our next blog century song, viz 11200th song of the blog. But the fact that it was also Internatioanl Yoga day and that had taken some toll on me (waking up early in the morning, not getting proper sleep despite it being a sunday, doing Yoga almost for the first time in life etc) meant that posting the required five songs on this day was a tall order. So I decided to go easy and post the 11200 th song of the blog one day later.
As usual, this song combines a couple of individual blog centuries with this blog song century. This song is the 300th lyrics of Prem Dhawan to appear in the blog. And secondly, this song is the 900th lyrics contribution by Prakashchandra to the blog. I take this opportunity to congratulate Prakashchandra on behalf of the blog for this mind boggling achievement. He is now just 100 songs short of the four figure mark. I am sure he will reach that figure too in due course.
So, here is this special song for this special occasion. This song is from “Passing Show”(1956). This movie was directed by Bhagwan for Mukul Pictures, Bombay. The movie had Chandrashekhar, Shakila, Poornima, Daljeet etc in it.
This song is sung by S Balbir and Geeta Dutt. Prem Dhawan is the lyricist. Music is composed by Manohar.
Only the audio of this song is available. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the picturisation of this song.
With this song, the blog now has 11200 posts. Another blog century achieved, even if this century took 50 days, which is nearly three times slower than usual for us). The good news is that despite being slow, this blog continues to chug on and on. Let us hope that our subsequent centuries will be clocked at a higher rate.
I take this opportunity to thank all visitors, readers, contributors and well wishers of this blog. This blog would not have reached this stage but for the support of all concerned. Here is hoping that this music bandwagon continues to move on and that it picks up speed too.

I think this one is one of the real and rear decent duet of Balbir with a regular female singer unlike the frivolous songs he had to belt out with mostly male singers. He has a rear solo in the movie.
He also sang solos in Karwat-1949, Khush Raho-1949, Bhed-1950, Jaishankar-1951, Thokar-1953, Dost-1954, Daak Babu-1954, Hanuman Janam-1954, Malik-1954, Shikar-1955, Alam Ara-1956, Khul Ja Sim Sim-1956, Lalten-1956, Mumtaz Mahal-1957, Tin Tin Tin-1959, Aayi Phir Bahar-1960, Daku Mansoor-1961,Khuni Saaya-1970. This forms a small % of his repertoire.
He has a decent voice and sounds as Kishore at time

I fondly recall the childhood memories when the famous cigarette brands like ‘Capstan’, ‘Cavenders’ and ‘Passing Show’, etc., used to advertise their products by the innovative means of a clown going round the streets holding their placards. In the case of ‘Passing Show’, the clown was on stilts and wearing a tall hat as shown on the cigarette packet.
What an arresting and amusing sight, especially for children.
