Today (14 july 2015) is the 40th death anniversary of Madan Mohan (25 june 1924- 14 july 1975). On this occasion, we are paying tributes to Madan Mohan by discussing a few of his (as yet undiscussed) songs.

Today (14 july 2015) is the 40th death anniversary of Madan Mohan (25 june 1924- 14 july 1975). Madan Mohan made his debut as a music director in 1950 with “Aankhen”(1950). He composed some 630 plus songs in 90 plus movies in his 25 year long career. It includes movies whose music were released after his death. I have a detailed moviewise breakup of all Madan Mohan songs which I will discuss sometime in future. The blog at present has 461 Madan Mohan compositions out of 630, so we have another 170 odd Madan Mohan compositions to go.

As a tribute to Madan Mohan, here is a song from “Anjaam”(1952). This song is sung by Hamida Bano who was predominantly a singer from the 1940s. This song sounds very much like a song from 1940s.

Today (13 july 2015) is the 76th birth anniversary of Prakash Mehra (13 july 1939- 17 may 2009). He was a producer and director of Hindi movies. People growing up in 1970s grew up on a diet of Amitabh Bachchan movies which were produced and directed either by Manmohan Desai or by Prakash Mehra. It was in fact Prakash Mehra who helped create the legend of Amitabh Bachchan with “Zanjeer”(1973) ata time when Amitabh Bachchan was written off and he was on the verge of biddling farewell to his acting career. He was match point down ( as they say in tennis) when “Zanjeer”(1973) happened and he never had to look back again from ever since.

After finishing my last song series on Talat Duets, I started thinking about a New Series. While browsing through my saved Drafts in G Mail, I realised that there were at least 100 songs and their links, lying unused in the Draft Box. All these handpicked songs were the songs that had remained unused as they were not used in that series. Whenever I want to do a series of say 10 songs, I am prepared with at least 15-16 songs. Many times, during the series period itself, I discover some new song suitable for that series and such songs then make back door entry in the series, with some of the earlier planned songs left waiting in the wings. Such songs thus add up to the number of undiscussed songs lying unused.

My list of ‘songs that create nostalgia and brings back memories’ include many songs sung by Rafi Saab, viz. ‘jhoomta saawan dekho aaya’, ‘shikaar karne ko aaye shikaar hoke chale’ etc.

The song under discussion today is one of those songs. When this film was released I was one year old, so I think that I must have watched this film when I must be of 5 or 6 years old.
