Hullo to all Atulwaasis
I am hereby announcing my resignation from this group. And no; it is not because of anyone in the group being offensive or being offended by any post in the Whatsapp group of the regulars of this blog. It is just that I am unfit to be in this group.
I am sure I have everyone’s attention now. And everyone will be looking for an answer to the “Y” and what lead to my decision. Well for starters I felt that either I should leave the group or take ‘sanyaas’ from the blog. “WHY?”
“Ok, ok” I will stop the melodrama. I will end the suspense 😉
Till about two days back, on 1st August to be precise I checked up the anniversary page on our blog. (It wasn’t opening that day and was giving error message, but I accessed it the next day.) That is my normal practice on the first of every month to check out what the approaching birthdays are, and how many posts I will be able to write out and send on time so that Atul ji can post it on the appropriate date. I had mentally made a note that come hell or high water I will definitely send a post to Atulji for the birthday of my favourite playback Singer- Actor with splendid comic timing and equally splendid in emotional movies. Someone who was having a good sense of music inspite of not being a classically trained singer. Someone who had a unique way of dancing and romancing his heroines. A person who was labeled eccentric but then all geniuses have a bit of eccentricity in them (this I have read somewhere, and I don’t have any scientific data to prove it.)
So coming to the hell or high water bit- I did face such a situation. On Sunday night just after I had finished reading all the posts on our blog for Rafisaab’s anniversary (about midnight) there was a huge sound of some blast. Only the next morning did we realize that it was a transformer which had gone bust in the night. So it was good morning without electricity and a morning spent in waiting for it to return. When it did return I discovered that the voltage surge had resulted in a lot of my appliances crashing—the list included my desktop. I have spent a good part of the last two days trying to get back all that I had lost to the voltage surge. The result of all this unexpected activity was that I missed my desktop, meaning I missed writing out a post for the blog. But of course all of the above doesn’t justify why I felt like taking Sanyaas, right?
It was around 11.50 this morning that I finally accessed my mailbox and what do I see there? A mail from our dear reminder-cell (Mahesh ji). He was sharing a link about an article on KK. And I just went into that mood…Oh My God! How could I forget? How did I not switch on music from the morning? I mean imagine the number of gems I must have missed since wake up time!!! Instantly I switched on the TV, and checked out what movies were on to remember KK by. “Pyar Kiye Jaa” was concluding and “Padosan” was lined up next. I couldn’t take it any more and I told my son (poor guy had just returned from shift and he was witness to my tirade) I have no business to be an Atulite. And that I am taking ‘sanyaas’ from the blog and resigning from the Whatsapp group. AHH! Now the world knows what crime I have committed.
I might as well make one more confession when I am in the mood – I am envious of Avinash ji. He keeps going to Khandwa. He has visited Kishore Kumar memorial there. In today’s email reply to Mahesh ji he has mentioned another upcoming visit. But it was heart warming to read about his experiences there and also his interaction with people who knew Kishore Kumar before the world knew him. The halwaai and the caretaker – kya kehne? And he has also mentioned Kishore Kumar’s salutation to the public “mere daada daadiyon, mere naana naaniyon… aap sabhi ko Kishore Kumar Khadwe-waale ka Namaskar”. I remember having seen this in a few Doordarshan progammes where KK had accompanied Kalyanji Anandji.
A very simple question – how difficult is it to select a song that will showcase the various aspects of Kishore Kumar’s singing? I have decided to take an easy way out of the predicament. I have zeroed in on a song by my favourite singer for my favourite actor. It is written by Anjaan and the music is by Rajesh Roshan. The movie is the 1981 release “Yaaraana” directed by Rakesh Kumar and produced by MA Nadiadwaala. The movie has Amjad Khan and Amitabh Bachchan playing friends who stand by with each other through thick and thin. It also has Neetu Singh, Kader Khan, Bharat Bhushan, Lalita Pawar, Jeewan, Ranjeet, Tanuja & Aruna Irani in supporting roles. The song which I want us to hear is a plea from Kishan (Amitabh) to Lord Shiva asking him to drill sense into a “Rootha” Bishan (Amjad). The song also has a slower version were Kishan is shown to be in a mental asylum. Here Aruna Irani (playing a nurse) brings Bishan’s son (who has lost his ability to speak due to some shock; role played by child actor Master Bittu, real life name Vishal Desai) to meet Kishan in the hope that this meeting will help the child regain his speech. I suppose listening to both songs will show what Kishore Kumar was capable of.
Before I conclude I must add that the electricity played truant twice during the course of typing this post. And I must thank Mahesh ji for technical knowledge about how to recover an unsaved document. But thankfully it was present in auto recovery.
Here is missing Kishore Kumar on his 87th birthday.

Lyrics
Part 1
———-
bhole..ey..ey
o bhole
wo rootha dil toota
mere yaar ko manaa de
wo pyaar phir jagaa de
mere yaar ko manaa de
wo pyaar phir jagaa de
bhole..ey..ey
o bhole
wo bichada to kasam se
phir mai na jee sakunga
mere bhole tere jaise
main zehar na pee sakunga
jism hu main wo jaan hai meri
usko nahi pahchan hai meri
jism hu mai wo jaan hai meri
usko nahi pahchan hai meri
pyaar mera tu jaane
mere yaar ko manaa de
wo pyaar phir jagaa de
bhole..ey..ey
o bhole
kya hoga phir tera
gauri jo rooth jaaye
shankar tere maathe ka
chanda jo toot jaaye
dum dum dum damru na baaje
bam bam bam phir tu na naache
dum dum dum damru na baaje
bam bam bam phir tu na naache
yaar agar na maane
mere yaar ko manaa de
wo pyaar phir jagaa de
mere yaar ko manaa de
woh pyaar phir jagaa de
bhole..ey..ey
o bhole
Part 2
———-
tu rootha
dil toota
mere yaar musukura de
wo pyaar phir jagaa de
mere yaar musukura de
wo pyaar phir jagaa de
kya jaane
kyon tujh pe
mujhe itna pyaar aaye
tu roothe
to jaise
meri kismet rooth jaaye
door na ja yun aankh chura ke
kya paayega mujhko rula ke
maan bhi jaa deewaane
mere yaar musukura de
wo pyaar phir jagaa de
mere yaar musukura de
wo pyaar phir jaga de
mere ya..aa..ar
mere yaar
mere ya..aa..ar
mere yaar

Ah, nice post. 🙂 Started with a shock (like a typical Prakash Mehra or Manmohan Desai film), then became more normal. 🙂
If I had to feel so guilty for not remembering an occasion, I would have needed to leave the group a hundred times. 🙂 As it is, I keep forgetting occasions. If we didn’t have this anniversary page, I wouldn’t remember any dates at all.
Glad to hear that you managed to recover this post, otherwise doing it all over again would have been a nightmare. What about the rest of your data? Hope you haven’t lost anything important?

Nice post and song to remember Kishore Kumar on his anniversary !!
enjoyed the post. This movie had all good songs and i like ‘tere jaisa yaar’ very much.
the problem of electricity playing ‘its role’ is also happening regularly here at our place. I think we are still a long way to go to make our ‘cities’ Smart 🙂

Peevesie’s Momji,
“Melodrama” in the begining, a “moody confession” in the middle and “true acknowledement” at the end!!! Kya post hai!!! Love your style (PM ki style hai 🙂 ) of writing every post.
Lovely post to remember KK on his 87th b’day and praying to Lord Shiva in this auspicious month of His. 🙂 Fariyaad zaroor suni jaayegi as He is BHOLE indeed!
