Today (17 september 2016) is the 17th death anniversary of Hasrat Jaipuri (15 April 1922 – 17 Sept 1999).
Many music lovers may be forgiven for assuming that Hasrat Jaipuri mostly teamed up for Shankar Jaikishan and he hardly worked with other music directors. He has worked with most other big as well as not so big name music directors during his career.
Here, as a tribute to Hasrat Jaipuri, here is a song from “Pilpili Sahab”(1954). This melancholic song par ecellence is rendered by Lata. hasrat HJaipuri is the lyricist. Music is composed by Sardul Kwatra.
Only the audio of this song is available. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the picturisation of this song.
Song-Jab tum hi hamen barbaad karo (Pilpili Saahab)(1954) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Hasrat Jaipuri, MD-Sardul Kwatra
Lyrics
jab tum hi hamen barbaad karo
jab tum hi hamen barbaad karo
duniya mein hamaara kya hoga
le jaayen kahaan taqdeer ko hum
jeene ka sahaara aa aa kya hoga
jab tum hi hamen barbaad karo
tum door khade ho saahil pe
haaye ae ae ae ae
tum door khade ho saahil pe
main beech bhanwar mein ghir jaaun
haaye ghir jaaun
us waqt ki haalat socho to
us waqt nazaara aa aa kya hoga
le jaayen kahaan taqdeer ko hum
udti hai sulagti raahon pe
haaye ae ae ae ae ae
udti hai sulagti raahon pe
ab dhool mere armaanon ki
armaanon ki
har mod pe gham ki aandhi hai
tinke ka sahaara aa aa kya hoga
le jaayen kahaan taqdeer ko hum
marna bhi jo chaahen
mar na saken
haaye ae ae ae ae
marna bhi jo chaahen
mar na saken
ik yaad tumhaari roke hai
haaye roke hai
jis rang mein ho
aawaaz to do
bolo to hamaara aa aa
kya hoga
jis rang mein ho
aawaaz to do
aawaaz to do
aawaaz to do
aawaaz to do o o

They say had she died in 1950s she would have still be AMAR. She had nothing more to prove thereafter.

Looooooooooong live our ‘Gaan-Saraswati’.
I had seen this film four times to hear this and other very good songs, as that was the only way to hear those songs then.

Strange at that very young age Lata di sang this song with such a heavy feelings. Great. Whole India is proud to have her as Indian.
