“Patraani”(1956) was produced by Shankarbhai Bhatt and directed by his younger brother Vijay Bhatt for Prakash Pictures. The movie had Vyjayantimala, Pradeep Kumar, Omprakash, Shashikala, Durga Khote, David, Jeevan etc. in it. The movie was based on a novel by Kanhaiyalal Munshi.

Today (15 october 2016) is the 94th birth anniversary of Shankar Singh Raghuvanshi (15 October 1922 – 26 April 1987) whom we know as Shankar of Shankar Jaikishan fame.

Regular of this blog are already aware that Shankar Jaikishan were the most dominant of all music directors during the golden era of HFM (1949- 1980). In fact, it can be argued that the golden era of HFM coincided with their debut as music directors in 1949 in “Barsaat”(1949). What a smashing debut it was for them. And they never looked back since, notching up one musical hit album after another for the next two decades.

Shankar Jaikishan duo ruled the roost for nearly two decades and the partnership was broken in 1971 with the untimely death of Jaikishan at the age of just 42. Shankar continued to give music for another two decades under the same brandname of Shankar Jaikishan but that music was not the same as the music that was created when both the partners were together.

This blog has as many as 913 songs composed by Shankar Jaikishan. 101 movies of Shankar Jaikishan have already been YIPPEED in the blog. So we now only have a little over 60 odd more movies to go, including around 20 movies whose music was created by the two partners and around 40 movies which were created by Shankar alone after the death of Jaikishan.

The earliest un-YIPPEED Shankar Jaikishan movie in the blog is “Patraani”(1956). Three songs (out of 10) from this movie have been discussed in the blog. Here is the fourth song from “Patraani”(1956) to appear in the blog.

This song is sung by Lata and it is picturised on Vyjyanti Mala who is seen dancing on this song in a bid to woo Pradeep Kumar.

Shailendra is the lyricist. Music is composed by Shankar Jaikishan.

Listen to this song, created six decades ago and relive the golden era of HFM.

Shankar and Jaikishen went up the top
to fetch a pair of crown
Jaikishen fell down
and Shanker came tumbling after
