PAAPI (1943) was produced by Satish Batra under the banner of Batra Productions, Lahore. The film was directed by Majnu. The star cast included Madhuri, Zahoor Raja, Majnu, Salma, Satish Batra, Moti, etc. I do not have much idea about the story line of the film. In a snippet appearing in one of the ‘Filmindia’ issues of 1943, there was an indication that it was a story built around the life of a sinner who had embarked upon his vicious design and poisoning the society. Probably, the film must have ended with the sinner getting reformed.
The film had 8 songs in it which written by Aziz Kashmiri and were set to music by Pandit Amarnath. In almost all the songs, names of singers are not indicated. Despite the best of my efforts, I could not locate any song from the film on YT. Even mp3 clip of the songs are rare to come across on the website. I have got mp3 clip of one song ‘pat raakho Girdhaari’ which have been uploaded on YT. The same song is being presented for the Blog. The song written by Aziz Kashmiri is set to music by Pandit Amarnath. This is a devotional song, more like a prayer to Lord, seeking His protection against the problems faced by the devotee.
Some of the Hindi film song websites like http://www.myswar.com have not indicated the name of the singer. However, as per http://www.earthmusic.net, the song is rendered by Zeenat Begum. The voice in the song fairly matches with that of Zeenat Begum.
With this song, the film PAAPI’ (1943) makes its debut in the Blog.
