I have no idea when it was for the first time that I heard this song under discussion. I may have listened to it for the first time on radio many years ago.

I have never watched this movie ‘Jaane Anjaane-1971’. The song that I associate this movie with is not this title song, but other better known songs viz. ‘teri neeli aankhon ke’ and later ‘chham chham baaje re payaliya’. I became familiar with these songs when when I got a compilation of songs recorded in 1987-98 that I labelled as ‘classical songs from Hindi movies’.

This song of “Jaane Anjaane”(1971) was one of the first songs that I shared in this blog. That was as far back as on 25.11.2012. I like this song very much. This is the only song sung by Kishore Kumar in this movie. I find the song as well as Kishore Kumar’s voice in this song very touching.

It was much later that I came to know about the details of this movie and then I began to wonder how and on whom this song was picturised in this Shammi Kapoor starrer movie. At that time in 2012 I could only find the audio of this song. But now the movie and this song is available on youtube. Picturisation wise, this is a two part song and the ‘mukhda’ is only repeated in the third part. I would like to thank all the music lovers who have uploaded this as well as other songs of this movie.

Now, after watching the video of this song it is clear to me that this is a ‘background song’ in the movie and in the movie it is played three times, where only the mukhda is repeated towards the end of this movie. The first part is played with the ‘titles’ of this movie, so this falls in the category of the ‘title song’ as well.

“Jaane Anjaane” (1971) was a ‘Shakti Films’ presentation. It was produced and directed by Shakti Samanta. The movie had Shammi Kapoor, Leena Chandavarkar, Sandhya Roy, Vinod Khanna, Helen, Sulochana, Lalita Pawar, K. N. Singh, Dhumal, Sajjan, Gulshan Bawra, Birbal, Murad, Sadhna Patel, Kanu Roy, Sujata Bakshi, Kundan, Master Sachin, Master Shahid, Master Manoj, Satyendra Kapoor, A. K. Tiwari, Darshan and Jayant in it.

Story of this movie was written by Madhusudan Kalelkar. Its dialogues were written by Vrajendra Gaur and editing was done by Govind Dalwadi.

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 17.05.1971.

As per HFGK this film had total seven songs in it. Music for this film was composed by Shankar-Jaikishan. Three lyricists – Hasrat Jaipuri – four songs, S.H.Bihari – two songs and Gulshan Bawra- one song shared these seven songs. Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Manna Dey, Mohd Rafi, Sharda and Suman Kalyanpur gave their voices to these songs.

Today’ song is penned by Hasrat Jaipuri and sung by Kishore Kumar. Music is composed by Shankar-Jaikishan.

HFGK doesn’t mention today’s song as a ‘multi part song’ in its list. So that way it may have been recorded as a one part song but it was used three times in the movie.

Let us now enjoy this one of the Kishore Kumar’s ‘early seventies’ songs, which was still missing on the blog …

Song-Jaane anjaane log miley (Jaane Anjaane)(1971) Singer-Kishore Kumar, Lyrics-Hasrat Jaipuri, MD-Shankar Jaikishan

Lyrics

Jaane anjaane log miley
Magar koyi mila na apnaa aa aa aa
Jaane anjaane log miley
Magar koyi mila na apnaa aa aa aa
Kya kya hamne sochaa thhaa
Reh gayaa ban ke sapnaa
O o o
jaane anjaane ae

Milaa na koi aisaa insaan
Dil kaa dard mitaataa aa
Kam se kam do baat to kartaa
Dil ki aas bandhaataa
Milaa na koi aisaa insaan
Dil kaa dard mitaataa
Kam se kam do baat to kartaa
Dil ki aas bandhaataa
Dard bharaa hai afsaana
Bhaag mein likhaa tadapnaa
O o o
Jaane anjaane log miley
Magar koi mila na apnaa
aa aa aa
Jaane anjaane

Aas niraas ke doraahe par
Dil to hamaara tootaa
Is kismat ne dheere dheere
Apnaa sab kuchh lootaa
Aas niraas ke doraahe par
Dil to hamaara tootaa aa
Is kismat ne dheere dheere
Apnaa sab kuchh lootaa
Aas niraas ke doraahe par
Dil to hamaara tootaa
Is kismat ne dheere dheere
Apnaa sab kuchh lootaa

Bheeg chuki hain ye palken
Bhool gaye ham hansnaa
O o o
Jaane anjaane log miley
Magar koi mila na apnaa
Aa aa aa
Kya kya hamne sochaa thhaa
Rah gayaa ban ke sapnaa
O o jaane anjaane
