“Pooja Ke Phool”(1964) was a remake of Tamil movie “Kumudam”(1962) which was simultaneously made into Telugu as “Manchi Manasulu” as well. On the insistence of AV Meiyyapan, the owner of AVM Productions, the producer of thes movies, tunes of the songs of the Tamil version were reused in Hindi songs as well.

“Pooja Ke Phool”(1964) had eight songs in it. Five of these songs have already been discussed in the blog. Here is the sixth song from “Pooja Ke Phool”(19864). The song is sung by Lata. Rajinder Krishan is the lyricist. Madan Mohan is the music composer.

Picturisation shows a morose looking Nimmi seated in front of a mirror considering suicide. She lip syncs a melancholic stanza. Her reflection in the mirror turns out to be quite an optimist though. 🙂 The reflection exhorts Nimmi to look at the positive sides of things and be an optimist instead of being a pessimist.

I have no idea whether Nimmi listens to the sane advice given to her by her reflection. I cannot drag myself towards a Nimmi movie to watch it, so I request our knowledgeable readers to tell us what happens next in the movie. 🙂

Song-Pehle meri aankhon ke chiraagon ko bujhaaya (Pooja Ke Phool)(1964) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Rajinder Krishan, MD-Madan Mohan

Lyrics

pehle meri ankhon ke chiraagon ko bujhaaya
aur phir mujhe taqdeer ne ae aayina dikhaaya
kyun mere andheron se koi ee ee pyaar karega
kya soch ke maalik ne dulhan mujh ko banaaya

maalik ne to khush ho ke tujhe aaj dua di

🙂 Actually Nimmi is blind in the film and is about to get married to Dharmendra. This song comes when she is apprehensive that she may be a burden on her husband. Though Dharmendra loves Mala Sinha circumstances force him to marry Nimmi because his sister loves Pran, who is Nimmi’s brother. Pran puts the condition that he will marry Dharam’s sister only if Dharam marries Nimmi. Anyway things become good for Nimmi as Mala Sinha befriends her and sorts out the tension between the three of them.
Later Pran commits a murder and to save his brother-in-law, Dharmendra takes the blame on himself. But Mala Sinha as his defence lawyer gets to the bottom of the case and saves him. In fact the last 45min of the film are devoted to interesting courtroom drama where Mala Sinha is pitted against her own father Ashok Kumar who is the Public Prosecutor.
Nimmi helps in nabbing Pran as he had inadvertently stamped on her hand while running away after committing the murder so her sense of touch proves helpful.
Hope the above gives you a good idea of the rest of the film… 🙂

Thanks a lot for the detailed and patient explanation. 🙂
