This is the 3300th song by Lata Mangeshkar as a playback singer in the blog.

Blog Day : 3482 Post No. : 13987

Having overcome the guilt of not contributing any song posts to one of my favourite blogs, I now feel mentally at ease.

My younger son got married recently. All our energy and resources were directed towards making this event a great success. We were very lucky that everything went as planned and now both my boys are happily married and have moved into their own sweet homes. Me and my wife now have the task of downsizing our 5 bedroom house to a more manageable 2 or 3 bedroom house. This process will be completed within the next 3 to 6 months.

Also, on the day of the said marriage, after finishing all the major events, I unfortunately, snapped the Achilles’ tendon in my right leg. I had to be rushed to the hospital and had my leg put in a a fiberplast cast. I have been told to use crutches and/or a wheel chair so as not to put any pressure on the leg. Thus, I am not at home for the next six weeks and have ample time to present some interestingly rare songs on this blog.

Now, as I sit down to write today’s post, I fondly recall this gem of a song, which used to feature in one of my audio cassettes titled R D Burman with Lata Mangeshkar. If you are hearing this song for the first time, I would suggest that you listen to it at least two or three times. This song grows on you.

Well that’s an interesting expression. How or why does a particular song grow on you ?

For me, I think it has to do with either it’s rarity, complexity or uniquity (is that a word?).

If there’s a lot going on in a song, it can take a number of listens to pick up on the big picture, as you may be focusing on one thing in particular. It takes time to build that picture up. Sometimes I listen to a song I have listened to a lot and still pick up on things I had never noticed before. If a song has a unique nature to it, it can take me time to adjust to it.

Today’s song is from an obscure movie, Savera from 1972, which makes its debut on this blog. It is the second song from the movie to appear in the blog. I distinctly remember having seen this movie but I hardly remember the story line. I just remember that Rehana Sultan is Saroj who loves Jatin (Kiran Kumar) but, unwillingly, under family pressure, goes on to marry Amar (Anil Dhawan). However, while being married, she is pregnant with Jatin’s child, which she is unaware of. I only remember this much and even this may be 100% wrong. However, we are here to appreciate this beautiful song.

Tons and tons of material has been written about our favourite Pancham Da aka Rahul Dev Burman. My saying anything further will be like showing a lamp to the sun, a cliché used widely in Hindi. The song, sung by Lata Mangeshkar and penned by Majrooh Sultanpuri.

Ed note: This rare song, a song that grows on you with repeated listening, is the 3300th song by Lata Mangeshkar as a playback singer in the blog.

Song-Main to deewaani tere liye o re piya(Sawera)(1972) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD-R D Burman

Lyrics

Hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm
Laa la laa la
Laa la laa la
Hmm Hmm Hmm Hmm

Tujhpe Luta Di Ye Zindgaani Re
Main To Deewaani
Hmm Hmm Hmm Hmm
Laa La Laa La aa

Tera Pyaar Le ke
Dooloon Nazaaron Mein
Udta Hai Panchhi
Jaise Bahaaron Mein
Yeh Mere Tan Se
Kisi Ki Mehak Aaye
Poochhe Pawan Se
Kaliyaan Ishaaron Mein
Unko Khabar Kya Mujh pe
Kaisi Jawaani Re
Main To Deewaani
Tere Liye
O Re Piya
Main To Deewaani
Tujhpe Luta Di
Ye Zindgaani Re
Main To Deewaani

Apne Piya Ke
Dil Mein Utar Ke Main
Soyi Sanwar Ke
Jaagi Nikhar Ke Main
Mohe Mila Jo
Rang Sajan Se
Chhalki phiroongi
Wohi Rang Bhar Ke Main
Laagoon Abhi Se Balma
Kaisi Suhaani Re
main to deewaani
Tere Liye
O Re Piya
Main To Deewaani
Tujhpe Luta Di
Ye Zindagaani Re
Main To Deewaani

Kya Jaanoon Sajna
Sansaar Ki Baatein
Maine To Seekhi Hain
Do Pyaar Ki Baatein
Hai Mera Mandir
Teri Nigaahon Mein
Aur Meri Pooja
Tujhse Mulaakaatein
Tujhpe Khatam Hai Saiyaan
Meri Kahaani Re
Main To Deewaani
Tere Liye
O Re Piya
Main To Deewaani
Tere Liye
O Re Piya
Main To Deewaani
Tujhpe Luta Di
Ye Zindgaani Re
Main To Deewaani
Tere Liye
O Re Piya
Main To Deewaani
