#The Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #
# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # 107 # Tribute to Sahir Ludhianvi #

Today 25th October’2020 is the fortieth Remembrance Day of poet-lyricist Sahir Ludhianvi. He was born on 08th March’1921 and that will mark hundred years of his stepping out on this planet earth.

Sahir Ludhianvi left this mortal world on 25th October’1980 due to heart attack when he was playing cards with his friends.

Today remembering Sahir Ludhianvi and paying him a tribute on the blog I am presenting a song penned by him for the ‘1977-movie- Jaagriti’. As per HFGK Vol-V (1971-1980) this movie was first titled as ‘Ajab Teri Sarkar’ and even its song records were released by this title. I think that affected one song of the movie which was supposed to be in four parts, but now only one of its parts is available.

“Jaagriti-1977” was directed by Rajendra Bhatia for ‘Jai Films, Bombay’. It was produced by Vimal Bhatia and Naresh Malhotra. It had Nutan, Vinod Mehra, Reena Roy, Master Satyajeet, Prem Chopra, I.S. Johar, Paintal and Asrani, with Krishnakant, Lily Chakravarty, Padma Chawhan, Ashoo and Junior Mehmood. They were supported by Ram Mohan, Karan Dewan, Sushil Bhatnagar, Birbal, Mounto, Keshav Rana, Madhu Apte, Brook Bond, Jugnu, Aditya Sharma, Manjeet, Salim, Rajesh, Raj Bachhan, Master Ripple, Master Ravi, Manmohan, Aarti, Ram Avtar, Narbada Shankar and Raaj Kishore.

Jayshree T and Helen make special appearances in this movie.

Story of this movie was written by Sharad Pilgaonkar and screenplay was written by Sachin Bhowmick. Dialogues of this movie were written by Sagar Sarhadi. Editing of this movie was done by Nand Kumar.

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 19.03.1977.

This movie had four songs written by Sahir Ludhianvi and composed to music by Laxmikant-Pyarelal. Asha Bhonsle, Suman Kalyanpur, Minoo Puroshottam, and Dilraj Kaur were the playback singers for this movie.

Today’s song is sung by Suman Kalyanpur and composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal.

Two songs of this movie sung by Asha Bhonsle noted long back are ready with us, however I when I came across this song sung by Suman Kalyanpur I selected it for today’s presentation for ‘special’ reasons. It’s a song praising to almighty and sung by Suman Kalyanpur.

I hope you will like the song too.

With today’s song this movie ‘Jaagriti-1977’ makes its debut of the blog (and also join the same titles of movies released in ‘1949’ & ‘1954’. There was one more movie with the same title released in ‘1992’.

With the today’s movie ‘Jaagriti-1977’ making its debut on the blog, all movies where Sahir Ludhianvi had written lyrics for movies released from 1971-1980 are now represented on the blog.

Song-Ham hain teri santaan (Jaagriti)(1977) Singer-Suman Kalyanpur, Lyrics-Sahir Ludhianvi, MD-Laxmikant Pyarelal

ham hain teri santaan
ham hain teri santaan
ham hain teri santaan
ham hain teri santaan

ye praan teri den hai
ye deh teraa daan
Allaah kahe koyi tujhe
ya kahe bhagwaan
ham hain teri santaan
ham hain teri santaan
ham hain teri santaan
ham hain teri santaan

ye praan teri den hai
ye deh teraa daan
Allaah kahe koyi tujhe
ya kahe bhagwaan
ham hain teri santaan
ham hain teri santaan
ham hain teri santaan
ham hain teri santaan

jeewan ke har ik mod pe
thokar se bachaana
thokar se bachaana
bhatken to hamen haath pakad
raah pe laana
raah pe laana
ham jo bhi hai jaise bhi hain
bas itnaa rahe dhyaan
ham hain teri santaan
ham hain teri santaan
ham hain teri santaan
ham hain teri santaan

duniyaa mein kabhi jhoothh ke
aage na jhuke ham
aage na jhuke ham
sach baat ke ailaan se
roke na ruken ham
roke na ruken ham
mil jaaye tere dwaar se
ham sab ko ye vardaan
ham hain teri santaan
ham hain teri santaan
ham hain teri santaan
ham hain teri santaan
ham hain teri santaan
ham hain teri santaan

Thanks for this post and this list, Avinashji.
In an entire decade, to write for just 25 films, shows how Sahir had reduced his involvement with the industry.
It’s not like he was not in demand – it was just that he had himself got somewhat disillusioned by the declining standards around him. After all, he set very high standards for himself. But when you see songs like “baith ja, baith gayi….khadi ho ja, khadi ho gayi” getting written, and he himself is asked to write “gapuchi gapuchi gum gum”, I can understand his frame of mind.

I notice one film with Kalyanji-Anandji.
That’s a rare combination, isn’t it?
Sahir with K-A.
Is this the only time they worked together, or are there any films from earlier decades?

Thank you Raja Saab for your comments. Actually I have prepared the list for all Sahir movies and I think I had shared with you in Mar’20. But, no issues, I am coming with a series now i.e. Sahir & Music Directors- Statistics only and no other ‘trivia’ or ‘gossips’.
(I will present the full list with a eighties movie yet to make a debut on the blog.)
Well, for this post I share the list of 1971-1980 only.
K-A had worked with Sahir in ‘Nanha Farishta-1969’, so two movies collaboration only.

Thank you for this remembrance post for Sahir Ludhianvi. This is a centenary year for him, so no doubt we will see a few more posts about him, with many fans of his poetry here. Looking forward for them.
