Blog Day :

Today (8 march 2021) is the birth anniversary of Sahir Ludhianvi(8 March 1921 – 25 October 1980). Yesterday (7 match 2021) was the remembrance day of Ravi (3 March 1926- 7 March 2012) as well. Together this lyricist-music director pair worked in 19 movies. Out of all music directors that Sahir Ludhianvi worked with, his collaboration with Ravi was the longest. Avinash Scrapwala, during his just concluded Sahir Ludhianvi series of articles, has given a detailed account of this collaboration in this article.

Vast majority of songs that the dou created in HFM have already been covered. We are left with just a few songs of this collaboration that are yet to be covered.

“Mehmaan”(1974) is one of those few movies that offeres us the opportunuty to discuss songs of Sahirv Ludhianvi and Ravi.

“Mehmaan”(1974) was produced by Shatrujit Paul and directed by K P Atma for Shatrujit films, Bombay. The movie had Biswajit, Rekha, Anwar Hussain, Manmohan Krishna, Abhi Bhattacharya, Tarun Bose, Sulochana Latkar, Mukri, B.B.Bhalla, Lata Sinha, Gopal Sehgal, Indira Bansal,Braham Bhardwaj, Pratima devi, Moolchand, Azad, Mona, Thakurdas Chabra, Helen etc. The movie introduced Jogindar aka Joginder Shelly to Hindi movies.

“Mehmaan”(1974) had six songs in it. Four songs have been covered in the past.

Here is the fifth song from “Mehmaan”(1974) to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Asha Bhonsle. It is picturised as a cabarat dance song on Helen. It is also a villain’s den song, with Azaad duly tied up by the villains. One can notice Tarun Bose, Joginder Shelly, Manmohan Krishan and Chinoo Shikaari aka Chinu Rajput also in the picturisation.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra.

Song-Tu darr mat darr mat yaara (Mehmaan)(1974) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Sahir Ludhianvi, MD-Ravi

Lyrics (Provided by Prakashchandra)

tu dar mat dar mat yaaraa
gham kar mat kar mat yaaraa
pal do pal dhoom machha ley
yoon mar mat mar mat yaaraa
kal kiss ne dekha kal aaye to
shaayad hum na hon
tu dar mat dar mat yaaraa
gham kar mat kar mat yaaraa
pal do pal dhoom machha ley
yoon mar mat mar mat yaaraa
kal kiss ne dekha
kal aaye to
shaayad hum na hon
tu dar mat dar mat yaaraa

ye raat behki behki
ye zulf mehki mehki
ye jism koraa koraa
ye rang goraa goraa
ye honth kaanpe kaanpe
ye saans haanpe haanpe
ye mastiyon ke gherey
ye makhmali andherey
aa jaa kareeb mere
kal kiss ne dekha kal aaye to
shaayad hum na hon
tu dar mat dar mat yaaraa
gham kar mat kar mat yaaraa
pal do pal dhoom machha ley
yoon mar mat mar mat yaaraa
kal kiss ne dekha
kal aaye to
shaayad hum na hon
tu dar mat dar mat yaaraa

kiss kaam ka hai yaaraa
ye door ka nazaaraa
ye gaal badhke chhoo ley
ye baal badhke chhoo ley
kuchch paanv tharrtharaaye
kuchch jism kasmassaye
nass nass badan ki phadke
seene mein aag bhadhke
dil dil se milke dhadhke
kal kiss ne dekha kal aaye to
shaayad hum na hon
tu dar mat dar mat yaaraa
gham kar mat kar mat yaaraa
pal do pal dhoom machha le
yoon mar mat mar mat yaaraa
kal kiss ne dekha
kal aaye to
shaayad hum na hon
tu dar mat dar mat yaaraa

jiss ne bhi dil ko tokaa
khud ko diya hai dhokha
aa door gham se ho jaa
be-baaq hum se ho jaa
ye aish do ghadi ka
hai raaz zindagi ka
baahon mein mujhko bhar ley
har khauff se guzar ley
ehsaan khud pe kar ley
kal kiss ne dekha
kal aaye to
shaayad hum na hon
tu dar mat dar mat yaaraa
gham kar mat kar mat yaaraa
pal do pal dhoom machha ley
yoon mar mat mar mat yaaraa
kal kiss ne dekha
kal aaye to
shaayad hum na hon
tu dar mat dar mat yaaraa

Our tributes to Sahir Ludhianvi.
Thanks for the post Atul ji and thanks for the lyrics Prakash ji.
I had earlier thought of write-up with this song but it got delayed, and on this special occasion today this song was very much suitable.
Thanks a lot .
Regards,
