Hullo Atuldom

To start with I would have sent a song to remember the legend Mohd Rafi on his 100th Birth anniversary. But after reading all the posts of the day on the blog, I am sure that I cannot do better than what is already said. I have been listening to songs of the legend since morning today.

There are five posts today; not that there is any rationing in place, we can have a lot more. I should thank Nahmji, Avinashji & Maheshji for pouring their hearts into their posts.
——————————————————————————————————————
There was a time in my life, when the children were in primary school, the last week of December along with the first week of January (in that order to be exact) were the costliest for my husband- God bless the Gem he is. He never cribbed or complained. Why was this period the “hole in the pocket” time for him- simple he had to celebrate the birthdays of three important people of his life.

It was no mean task considering that the children were in school which meant that they had to carry chocolates to distribute to their classmates & teachers. The count of the chocolate had to be number of persons multiplied by 2. And the number of teachers used to be around 30/40 i.e. everyone in the staff room & students used to be 50/60. (I am allowing the readers to do the Math Emoji). The celebration in school would be followed by a party to all their friends, who were kids of our neighbours, which meant some decorations, cake, wafers, samosa & cold drinks (standard menu).

There is another system that is followed in our family, of celebrating the birthdays based on the PANCHANG- for which I used to make a feast complete with Payasam, visit to the temple for pooja & archana. Also, there was a requirement of a different new outfit- one for school & another for the temple part of the celebration. All this was time-consuming to arrange and heavy on the wallet (for our financial standing back then). This was for two children.

Thankfully the third important person for my husband didn’t need the birthday party or the chocolates for school part of the celebration. But there used to be a lunch or dinner treat at some nearby restaurant. So, there was no, escaping expenses.

Then, sometime after the children came to high school, we zeroed in on the formula of celebrating all the three birthdays with a lunch/dinner treat at some restaurant, (i.e. no separate birthday parties) though the chocolate distribution in school continued as also the temple part.

I hope the above explains my habit of finding songs with two or more celebrities sharing their birthdays or anniversaries, as I have been doing combination work for years. (I have never known if it was good idea, but it used to reduce work then and now I need to write only one post.)

But, the song with this post is on another level itself. It celebrates a few celebs, whose birthdays have been in the past 7 to 10 days (one birthday is in a day or two) .

The song is from a film whose title was inspired from a famous song in Prakash Mehra’s ‘Muqaddar Ka Sikandar’ (1978) – ‘salaam-e-ishq meri jaan zara qubool kar lo’.

“Saalam E Ishq” (Salute to Love) was a 2007 film which was about “Six couples and the problems in their lives when fate forces them to move away from each other. They must overcome these issues in order to make their love triumphant.”

Priyanka Chopra & Salman Khan, Akshaye Khanna & Ayesha Takia, Juhi Chawla & Anil Kapoor, Vidya Balan & John Abraham, Govinda & Shannon Ezra & Isha Koppikar & Sohail Khan are the six couples. Vishal Malhotra, Prem Chopra, Viju Khote, Anjana Sukhani, Tinnu Anand, Saurabh Shukla, Vrajesh Hirjee, Anang Desai, Kamini Khanna, Manoj Pahwa etc. etc. etc. were in supporting characters; now with six couples everyone will need father, mother, brother, sister & friends no?

The film was directed by Nikkhil Advani; his second venture after “Kal Ho Na Ho” (2003). Mukesh Talreja & Sunil Manchanda were the producers. Shankar Ehsaan Loy were the music directors for songs written by Sameer. There was one song in the film that has been credited to Majrooh Sultanpuri & O.P. Nayyar- ‘Babuji dheere chalna’ was reused in the film (I have seen this film decades back & I don’t recall if there was any tweaking of the lyrics or tune. Seems the voice is of someone called Nihira Joshi). Kailash Kher, Mahalakshmi Iyer, Sonu Nigam, Shreya Ghoshal, Kunal Ganjawala, Sadhana Sargam, Shankar Mahadevan, Shaan, Shilpa Rao, Loy Mendonsa, & Adnan Sami were the playback singers for the seven songs.

Here is a list of the celebs, from the film, who have their birthdays in December.

John Abraham 17th December 1972
Sohail Khan 20th December 1970
Govinda 21th December 1963
Anil Kapoor 24th December 1959
Salman Khan 27th December 1965
Vidya Balan will celebrate her birthday in January (1st January).

So here is the multi-starrer song for the multi-star-cast birthdays from the multi-starrer film in the voices of Sonu Nigam Shreya Ghoshal Kunal Ganjawala,Sadhana Sargam & Shankar Mahadevan.

Good presentation. If you ask me whats the best thing in this song, I would say, Sonu Nigam’s voice and singing.

I have toyed many times with writing a post for ‘Heeriye Sehra bandh ke main to aaya re” another one by Sonu Nigam. Usually for celebration or wedding songs post. Good reminder of both the songs.

Thanx and regards.
