The song is written by Pandit Narendra Sharma and is set to music by Rajkamal. The song is picturised on Varsha Usgaonkar in the role of Uttara while her music and dance teacher is Arjun (Feroz Khan) who has disguised himself as Brihannala, the eunuch. The song is based on Raag Bhimpalashi, the same Raag on which the song, beena madhur madhur kachhu bol from the film, ‘Ram Rajya’ (1943) was composed.

The film’s multi-star cast comprised of Raj Kumar, Hema Malini, Smita Patil, Mithun Chakraborty, Poonam Dillon, Dr Sriram Lagoo, Ranjeet, Danny Denzongpa, Iftekhar, Parikshit Sahni, Aruna Irani, Om Shivpuri, Kiran Vairale, Dev Kumar, Leela Mishra, Jankidas, C S Dubey, Master Raju, Baby Gazala etc. In the film, there were cameo roles of Helen, Bharat Bhushan and Amrita Singh whose names did not appear on the credit titles. ‘Dastoor’ (1991) was produced by Harish Munjal and Prem Chugh and was directed by Anil Mattoo. The cast included debutants Dolly Minhas, Pomy Dev in the lead roles supported by Sharmila Tagaore, Suresh Oberoi, Raza Murad, Alok Nath, Manohar Singh, Johny Lever, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Dinesh Hingoo, Harish Munjal etc. Amita Nangia made her friendly appearance in the film. I have watched the film for the first time only a few days back in one sitting. The film is a murder mystery drama with a fast-paced narratives to keep the audience engrossed while watching the film.
The opening scene of the film gives a feel of watching some of the suspense thriller films of the 1960s like ‘Wo Kaun Thhi’ (1964), ‘Poonam Ki Raat’ (1965) and ‘Mera Saaya’ (1966). A girl in white, without any expression, walks through the forest in a dark night with a background song, her destination being an architecturally impressive palatial mansion in which the owner lives alone. The caretkaer of the dmansion is seen smoking his chillum. After some time, he is seen switching off the lights of the first floor of the mansion. Simultaneously, a man in hat is also walking toward the mansion. An unidentified person has killed the watchman of the mansion by suffocating him. Inside the house is a pet eagle which makes a noise, probably giving a notice that someone has entered inside the mansion. Another man is slowly climbing the stairs with camera focussed only on his legs. Now, inside the mansion, there are four persons in addition to the owner of the house – the caretaker, the girl in white, the man with a hat and a person climbing the stairs in the mansion. All these scenes of movements give an indication to the audience that something is going to happen inside the mansion.

In this article I am taking up for discussion an obscure film, ‘Rukhsat’ (1988) which I watched online recently. The film was written and directed by Simi Grewal – the only film she directed so far. The cast included Mithun Chakraborty, Anuradha Patel, Marc Zuber, Amrish Puri, Simi Grewal, Pradeep Kumar, Rohini Hattangadi, Tom Alter, Baby Sona Sardesai etc with friendly appearance by Sujit Kumar. The film took about 6 years to complete and get released.

A few months back, I stumbled upon a Blog on blogpost.com with a caption, ‘Arjun Hingorani’. This was the only post which was dated March 28, 2010. More or less the similar post appeared on wordpress.com with a caption, ‘Arujunhingorani’s Blog’. The Blog had only one post dated March 29, 2010, introducing himself as producer-director-actor and the spiritual author. His last qualification surprised me. So, I read the entire post in which he wrote about his early life in Jacobabad (Sind) before partition, the difficulties he faced after migration to India, his stint with Hindi film industry and finally turning to his spiritual journey to Vrindavan near Mathura where he spent his last years. I was familiar with his name since his film, ‘Kab? Kyon? Aur Kahaan?’ (1970) was released and about his film titles with ‘KKK’. It was only when I read his Blog post, I felt that he needed to find a place in our Blog.
