#the Decade of Eighties – 1981 – 1990 #
———————————————————————

Today’s song is the final song from the movie ‘Bekaraar-1983’. I had come across this song for the first time more than a year back when I had listened to it during my daily commute to my workplace at Vadodara. I liked this philosophical song for its lyrics as well as the composition. It was thanks to this song that I looked at the other songs of this movie ‘Bekaraar-1983’. That is how I became aware of the songs of this movie, therwise I was only aware of the title song ‘bekaraar bekaraar bekaraar kiyaa’ of this movie. So far, I have presented four songs out of the five songs of this movie that have been covered on this blog.

‘Bekaraar-1983’ was directed by V.B. Rajendra Prasad for ‘Jagpati Art Pictures, Madras’. V.B. Rajendra Prasad was also the producer for this movie and he also wrote the screenplay of this movie. This movie was passed by the Censor Board on 01.08.1983. The cast of this movie has Ashok Kumar, Sanjay Dutt, Mohnish Behl, Padmini Kolhapure, Supriya Pathak, Om Shivpuri, Satyen Kappu, Asrani, Mohan Choti, Tez Sapru, Chand Usmani, Poornima, Dulari, Seema, and Yasmeen Khan, Sangeeta Behl, Tulsi Devi, Kirti Singh, Aslam Farshauri, Manmood Khan, Master Manoj, Master Dambu and others.

I have already given details about the storyline of this movie in my earlier posts. I will be giving a summary of this movie once again. This movie, a‘social movies’ has all the ingredients of such films to keep the audience engaged even though the story is on predictable lines. It has all the contents of a family drama, a little bit of action, melodrama, and lastly sacrifices.

The story of this movie is:-

Shyam (Sanjay Dutt) and Pradeep (Mohnish Behl) are close friends. Nisha (Supriya Pathak) is also a common friend of Shyam and Pradeep studying together in the same college. Nisha since childhood is dreaming of marrying to Shyam. However Shyam does not love Nisha. Sundari (Padmini Kolhapure) is the new entrant to their class and soon Shyam falls in love with Sundari. They get closer on the day of the annual function musical night and Sundari gets pregnant. Shyam is not aware of this. And though Shyam declares his love for Sundari his family does not accept this as they have their commitments to Nisha’s father (Om Shivpuri) who had helped them in their bad days. So Shyam has to marry Nisha. Sundari tries to take her own life but is saved by Pradeep and his sister. Pradeep loves Kusum but he marries Sundari to save her from social disgrace as she is pregnant. All does not goes well with Nisha either, as Shyam is always missing his first love Sundari, and is not able to live a normal husband-wife life with Nisha. Nisha’s father (Om Shivpuri) suggests them to have a tour to Kashi. On the Railway station Nisha and Shyam meet Sundari and Pradeep who are also travelling to Kashi. During this travel Nisha gets doubtful of Shyam and Sundari’s relations and the baby Sundari is carrying with her. She decides to settle the score with Sundari and reaches to Pradeep’s house, where Pradeep’s sister tells her about the real story and how Pradeep has to sacrifice his life and how Nisha is responsible for ruining the life of Shyam, Sundari and Pradeep. Nisha decides to sacrifice her life and Sundari is also thinking the same. They both meet to invite each other for dinner at their place.

The movie ends with one of them moving to the other world and clearing the ‘road’ for others to live peacefully forever.

This movie ‘Beqaraar-1983’ has six songs in it. All the songs are written by Anand Bakshi and music is composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal. I consider this as one of their good music album. So far five songs from this movie have already been posted on this blog. Let us see how the songs appear in the movie with their links on this blog.

The first two songs in this movie are romantic duets where we have Shyam (Sanjay Dutt) and Sundari (Padmini Kolhapure) falling in love and romancing around.

The first song is ‘Maine ye faislaa kar liyaa hai’. This songs takes place when Sundari joins college. One student Joginder (Tez Sapru) from the same class tries to molest Sundari on the way where Shyam saves Sundari after a fight with Joginder. Next we have Shyam entering a theatre to watch movie where incidentally Sundari is also watching the movie and Shyam has his seat next to her. Shyam accidentally steps over Sundari’s foot taking to his seat, as the movie had already started. Sundari shouts and people around rise to beat Shyam. However Sundari saves him. So now watching the movie and watching Sundari Shyam is dreaming of this rocking song sequence with her. The second song is the song of the ‘lovers meeting’ which is ‘tum chaley aaye chalo khair huyee, tum naa aate to ghazab ho jaataa’. This song has Sundari (Padmini Kolhapure) and Shyam (Sanjay Dutt) in the picturisation.

The third song in this movie ‘bekaraar bekaraar bekaraar kiyaa’ can be said to be a ‘turning point’ in the movie. This song happens in the movie as a part of ‘annual function cultural festival’ in the college where Shyam, Sundari and Pradeep are studying. Shyam (Sanjay Dutt) and Pradeep (Mohnish Behl) perform on this song with their friends. After the performance ends, Shyam and Sundari get involved in private intimate moments.

The forth in the movie is ‘Siyapati Ramchandra ki jai’ It happens in the movie when Shyam gets married to Nisha. While Nisha is overjoyed on getting married Shyam is not in good mood as he is not happy with this marriage. To lift-up Shyam’s sombre mood Nisha tries to tease him with romantic talks but instead Shyam tries to play some music on the cassette player. So thinking that music and dance will make Shyam happy Nisha breaks into singing and performing this today’s song.

The fifth song of the movie is the song under discussion. This song is a background song. The incidences covered during this background song are Sundari’s pregnancy, her delivering a baby child and parenting her. Pradeep supporting her as his parents (Ashok Kumar and Chand Usmani and their associate Asrani) are also happy and overjoyed on this occasion. And on the side we have Nisha and Shyam with their strained relationship suffering. This is a philosophical-poignant song.

The sixth song in this movie is a poignant song and a ‘rail song’ too. This song ‘gaadee chhuk chhuk chaltee hai’ has already been covered earlier. The picturisation of this song has all the four major characters present in the picturisation along with an infant baby. They are shown travelling in same coach of a train, where Sundari sings this song as a ‘lullaby’ for her infant daughter. It is during this song that the seeds of doubts get sowed in the mind of Nisha about the relationship of Shyam and Sundari and the baby child.

As mentioned by me earlier all the songs except the title song of this movie are lesser heard songs in spite of being good compositions.

The song under discussion is sung by Mahendra Kapoor. Let us listen to this philosophical song.

This is the sixth and final song from the movie to be covered in the blog. So this movie “Bekaraar”(1983) is now YIPPEED in the blog.
