#the Decade of Fifties – 1951 – 1960 #
Today’s wonderful song is from the 1959 movie ‘Grihalaxmi’. I guess that the song is addressed to Lord Krishna who has come in ‘disguise’. Though it is my guess only because it is a social movie and not a mythological movie.
‘Grihalaxmi-1959’ , a social movie was directed by Raman B Desai for ‘Bombay Movietone, Bombay’. The cast of this movie has Pandhari Bai, Shahu Modak, Lalita Pawar, Kumari Nazar, Rooplaxmi, Miss Kala, Indira Bansal, Ram Avtaar, Raj, Umakant, Praveen Pal, Devendra, Suryakant Shukla, Polsan, Bhairav, Bipin Gupta and others. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 02.02.1959. So the movie is now almost sixty-seven years old. This movie has nine songs written by Bharat Vyas and music is composed Avinash Vyas.
The fact that I have enjoyed listening to Avinash Vyas’s compositions has been mentioned by me the past as well. He might have not got the recognition or honors that he deserved but he holds a special place in the hearts of music lovers who have listened to his compositions.
The playback singers for this movie ‘Grihalaxmi’ included Asha Bhonsle, Geeta Dutt, and Mohd Rafi. Geet Kosh (Vol-III 1951-1960 mentions the name of singers for all individual songs except one song). Four songs from this movie have been posted on the blog. Today I am presenting the fifth song from this movie which is in the voice of Asha Bhonsle.
